Applications are invited for the post of Statistician to be based at the Papworth Trials Unit Collaboration (PTUC) within Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. PTUC has a long-standing partnership with the University of Cambridge, MRC Biostatistics Unit (BSU) where the successful applicant will enjoy visiting worker rights and benefit from the day-to-day support (onsite and offsite) from a designated Senior Statistician.
The post represents an excellent development opportunity as the successful applicant will work closely with both trial methodologists at the BSU and research practitioners at Royal Papworth Hospital in advancing health research.
The successful applicant will contribute to on-going clinical and observational studies at Papworth and play a key role in the design of new studies, protocol writing, statistical analysis plan development and in the analysis and reporting of studies leading to publications.
Applicants should have a postgraduate degree (PhD, MPhil, MSc) in statistics or a related subject, and experience in statistical programming especially using the R language. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers.
PTUC is fully registered with the UK Clinical Research Collaboration.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work within PTUC to provide statistic support and advice to Papworth based researchers and external partners, to ensure high quality research.
The post-holder will provide statistical advice, guidance and support to the design, monitoring, analysis and publication of clinical trials and observational studies. This includes performing sample-size calculations and power analyses, writing statistical analysis plans, performing custom statistical analyses of the relevant endpoints, and preparing results (like figures and tables) for publications.
The post-holder will also support research grant applications, providing guidance and advice in the design, organisation, management, and data analysis.
The post-holder will work effectively with our partners across the collaboration, the BSU and the Health Economics Research Group at King's College London.
