We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic nurse who is currently working as a band 6 or 7, who ais looking for a new challenge or looking to progress to a Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.
This post is based on Ward C at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. Ward C is 32 bedded Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and Care of the older person rehabilitation ward and has a strong MDT approach to care.
The post holder will be responsible for providing strong nursing leadership and ensuring and upholding excellent standards of care.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
You will have continuing responsibility for the ward/department, ensuringefficient/effective management of the area. You will promote and improve and maintain high standards of care and contribute to the wider development of nursing within the Health Board.
This will be based upon sound evidence based practice in line with the legal requirements, statutory rules and Health Board policies relating to practice and the NMC Code.
You will ensure patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. You will manage the skill mix of the nursing team and other resources effectively for the delivery of a high standard of care.
You will communicate effectively at all times, liaising with Site managers, Discharge Liaison Nurse and members of the Multidisciplinary Team to maintain flow of patients to the relevant areas/ place of discharge You will and facilitate the development and maintenance of the ward/department philosophy.
As the ward leader you will display leadership skills which will initiate and manage change in collaboration with the Matron, Senior Matron and Unit Nurse Director

Job Summary/Job Purpose:
Demonstrate the Health Boards values of caring for each other, working together and always improving in everything that you do in the work environment and ensure that others demonstrate the same values.
Exercise 24-hour accountability for the management of the ward, to include leading and developing the core nursing establishment in the delivery of compassionate, high quality, effective, patient-centred nursing care and providing fair, honest and measured people management.
Provide visible, professional nursing leadership, support, supervision and guidance (in line with NMC standards), expert clinical advice and undertake management and monitoring activities in line with legal and professional requirements, statutory rules and Health Board policies relating to evidence based practice
Be responsible for the efficient management of the ward budget, effectively deploying the nursing team and utilising the allocated resources and raising any financial expenditure concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Work and communicate effectively as a member of the senior clinical and nursing leadership team for the Division/service, collaborating with other Ward Managers and Matrons, including deputising for the Matron where required at patient flow, Health Board and site based meetings.
Create and promote a learning culture within the clinical area to support the professional growth and development of all nursing staff, students and (as appropriate) members of the multi-disciplinary team.
