If you a qualified pharmacist wishing to gain experience working clinically in a prison setting, this post could be for you. The post-holder will provide pharmaceutical services to HMP Wandsworth, supported and trained by the Specialist Prison Services Pharmacist. You will work with a small pharmacy team, including medicines management technicians f and provide support to the dispensary.

The post-holder will be based at the dedicated pharmacy departments at HMP Wandsworth.

The post holder will be employed by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and seconded to Oxleas Prison Services Pvt. Ltd.

Main duties of the job

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is a mental health and community trust that provides a wide and growing range of services across the boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich and Bromley and also services in Kent. Oxleas Prison Services Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and provides the pharmacy services to the prison pharmacy contracts. Due to the recent contract award from NHS England we are now providing pharmacy services to the Wandsworth Prison and are recruiting to newly established posts.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To provide on a weekly basis a pharmacy clinical service to the allocated area(s) of HMP Wandsworth following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • To ensure you personally have high standards of work, both clinical and dispensing and follow all SOPs as directed by the senior prison services Pharmacist.
  • To work with the pharmacy technician(s) providing medicines optimisation and to support this technician professionally.
  • To implement the prison formulary, in collaboration with primary care colleagues.
  • To generate monthly reports on drug expenditure for the allocated healthcare area(s) and to advise the prescribers on areas for improvement and efficiencies.
  • To act as responsible pharmacist when rostered to do so in the dispensary.
  • To ensure all work is carried out in a timely manner to meet the requirements of medicines optimization technicians on the wings.

    Essential

    • Masters of Pharmacy degree
    • Registered with Gphc


    Desirable

    • Certificate in clinical pharmacy or working towards it
    • Substance misuse/mental health experience/knowledge
