Following the development & planned restructure of the Urology CNS department, we are now looking for enthusiastic and committed Advanced Nurse Practitioners who will be committed to lead on the delivery of high quality patient care and service innovation, as well as developing nursing teams who are skilled and confident for the future in the Department of Urology at The Royal Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.
These posts will provide clinical support, nursing care & clinical leadership for patients referred on the suspected prostate cancer pathway. Successful applicants will have the drive & passion to assist with the current workload & service development in association with the NHSE Directive to improve the prostate pathways for our patients & other urological diseases.
We are looking for highly motivated, skilled individuals who either have or are working towards a Masters/PGDip in Advanced Clinical Practice & who are forward thinking to step up to this challenge & can demonstrate the 4 pillars of advanced practice. A trainee band 7 ACP/ANP may be considered, depending on existing skills, experiences & qualifications. Support will be given through a recognised programme of training to obtain accreditation to undertake Local Anaesthetic Trans-Perineal Prostate biopsy (LATP) and/or flexible cystoscopy. Candidates must be fully trained in LATP.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as an integral member of the specialist team, collaborating with primary & secondary care, clinical and operational teams, to ensure those referred receive a high quality, safe, effective & timely diagnostic pathway.
You must be enthusiastic with excellent communication skills in order to liaise effectively with the multi-disciplinary teams and strive to provide high standards of care. You will be highly motivated and dedicated to your role and have had extensive experience as a Band 7 level in urology or cancer settings.
The initial priority of the role will be to optimise the prostate cancer pathways to ensure clinically effective faster diagnosis. The role will support compliance against the 28d & 62d standard for Cancer Waiting Time (CWT) guidance, working autonomously and in collaboration with colleagues, proactively identifying potential and actual risks for non-compliance with the pathway, instigating mitigating actions or escalating as appropriate.
The post holder will help lead, working alongside the clinical & operational teams, a prostate diagnostic service to meet national target and standards. It will support the delivery of cancer waiting times standards, providing positive patient outcomes, and improving patient experience. The agreed focus will be to develop a system wide approach to implement high quality timely cancer pathways and improve access to cancer diagnostics including Local Anaesthetic Trans-Perineal Prostate biopsy (LATP).
