Division 3B is currently hiring across the Stroke Wards across 3 hospitals Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You get to choose the site that suits you.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated, professional Registered Nurses to join our specialist Stroke team, and are seeking applications from dynamic, experienced Nurses who wish to develop their skills.

We have senior management team across all wards to support you during a clinical shift. You will get the opportunity to manage a clinical shift as the nurse in charge. As a management team our focus is on your development as a band 5 staff nurse with the opportunity to undertake extra professional development at university level providing it benefits the ward area.

The Stroke unit (514) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham comprises of 12 hyperacute monitored beds, and 24 acute beds. We deliver a 24 hour Thrombectomy service and are the only Hyperacute admitting Stroke unit for UHB, serving South Birmingham and beyond.

Ward 8 at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital is an 34 bedded Acute Stroke Unit which cares for patients that have had an acute stroke or have rehabilitation from stoke. The ward managers are Sarah-Jane Taylor. If you would like more information please contact them on 01214242397

Ward 28 at Good Hope Hospital is a 24 bedded Acute Stroke Unit. Ward 14 is a 29 bedded ward, which delivers acute clinical care alongside rehabilitation to patients. The ward manager is Mazvita Muzuwa. If you would like more information please call 01214247070.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC


Experience

Essential

  • Previous or recent experience of working in an acute secondary NHS care setting, can include student placements within the last 12 months
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/competence
  • Experience of working on your own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrate achievement of numeracy and literacy skills, which include drug administration calculations
  • Ability to read/write and speak, receive and understand instructions in English
  • Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
  • Competent in a range of clinical skills and willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required
  • Professional appearance
  • Display genuine interest in the post applied for and can articulate this when questioned
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Ability to communicate articulately with others
  • Caring and approachable
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights/weekends/unsocial hours where required
