This is an exciting opportunity to join the Primary Care Team within Hywel Dda University Health Board. We are looking for competent and dynamic individuals who have a passion for service change and delivery alongside contract management. You will be working within a peer group of Primary Care Service Optometric Managers who work across the Optometric Services.

As a senior member of the team you will lead operationally on the clinical element and service development of the Optometric Service for all 3 Counties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical management and performance management of the Optometric Service and service development for opticians across all 3 counties.

Working as part of the wider Primary Care team you will be key to the performance management of Primary Care Optometric providers and implementation of new services. You will also provide clinical support and guidance to professional collaborative meetings, ensuring that robust governance arrangements are in place in line with local and national agreements.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • BSc(Hons) Degree in Optometry.
  • Registered with the General Optical Council.
  • Member of College of Optometry.
  • Member of the Association of Optometrists.
  • Master's Degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Post-graduate qualification relating to a highly specialist aspect of clinical optometry e.g. College of Optometrists Professional / Higher Certificate / Diploma in contact lens practice / glaucoma/ low vision/ medical retina/ paediatric eye care.
  • Evidence of up to date Continuing Professional Development.
  • Evidence of up to date knowledge of WGOS Regulatory Framework, General Ophthalmic Contract 2009 and recent clinical developments.


Desirable

  • EHEW & LVSW accredited optometrist.
  • Registered on Wales Ophthalmic Performers List.
  • Current experience of delivering clinical services at least 1 day per week.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience working as an optometrist in Primary Care.
  • Experience of the NHS transformation agenda.
  • Experience delivering both safe, qualitative and effective services providing value for money.
  • Experience managing conflict.
  • Experience of working at a senior level across Primary and Secondary Care.
  • Experience of clinical leadership at a senior level across primary and secondary care within the NHS.
  • Experience of having worked in different optical settings.
  • Experience of working relationships with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
  • Compliant with Data Protection and Caldicott - adhere to total confidentiality at all times.
  • Organise and prioritise when working under pressure.
  • Good level networking and liaison skills and the ability to meet deadlines and targets.


Desirable

  • Experience managing a Primary Care Optometry practice.
  • Experience of managing change.
  • Experience of having worked in different optical settings.

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
