This is a great opportunity for an individual to provide clinical and service input to Neurosurgery specialist services. The post-holder will cover inpatient services, providing neuropsychological and psychological support and interventions to individuals undergoing elective and emergency neurosurgery.

This post is fixed term for 11 months maternity cover until August 2024.

Main duties of the job

This post forms part of a supportive team of clinical psychologists/neuropsychologists and wider MDT. The role includes assessment, consultation, staff training, team formulation and psychological support to service users and their families. There is access to a wealth of supervision and support within our friendly neuropsychology department. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop specialist areas of practice and knowledge in neuropsychology. We have strong teaching and research links with Cardiff University and CUBRIC, and research interests are actively encouraged.

We are looking for an applicant with an interest in working within neurological conditions. This post would appeal to an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner, who enjoys working as a team member and holds patient care at the centre of their work.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

• Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
• Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
• HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.

Desirable

• Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

Experience

Essential

• Significant and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
• Experience of working with neuropsychological and associated problems presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
• Experience of teaching/training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
• Demonstrable evidence of significant specialist clinical supervision within a scientist-practitioner framework

Desirable

• Experience of working in both community and in-patient settings.
• Experience working within a multi-disciplinary context
• Experience of NHS planning/service improvement forums

• Well-developed specialist knowledge of psychological models and therapies related to the needs of people with neurological conditions.
