There are exciting times ahead for Neuro-developmental services in Hywel Dda University Health Board and we would like to appoint a full time and permanent, Band 8c Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Are you already a dynamic 8b Clinical Psychologist, who is keen to develop and able to take on new challenges to increase your clinical and managerial skillset?

Neuro-developmental Services are dynamic and innovative and this role will provide excellent professional development opportunities. As Clinical Lead across the Adult ADHD and both Children and Adult's Autism Services, the role will have a particular focus on quality, evaluation, audit and monitoring outcomes. It will also include working clinically around assessment and intervention with the more complex of presentations and providing expert professional knowledge around neuro-divergence across a range of sectors. The base will be in St David's Park, Carmarthen but the role will cover the whole of the Health Board footprint.

Main duties of the job

Further developing evidence based clinical practice across services will be a central role. The successful candidate will be responsible for further developing the Psychology perspective within each team to include assessment, formulation and developing psychological interventions, particularly for the more complex presentations. In consultation with the Service Delivery Manager for Neurodevelopmental services, there will be a focus on waiting list management, including developing and implementing new initiatives, involving a whole system approach to managing demand and capacity across each service area.

West Wales is a beautiful place to live, especially for those who enjoy outdoor activities. There are good links with the South Wales Doctoral Training Course for Clinical Psychology and psychologists are encouraged to have trainees on placement.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registration as a practitioner psychologist with HCPC
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards or guidance specific for specialty
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
  • Extensive knowledge of neuro-divergent conditions
  • Extensive knowledge of Welsh Government policy surrounding the development of children and adult neuro-developmental services


Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Formal supervisor training and accreditation
  • Specialist Psychotherapy qualifications recognised by UKCP, BABCP, BPC
  • Qualifications in assessment of neurodiversity eg ADOS-2, DISCO, ADIR, 3Di, Diva


Experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist including post qualification experience within the designated specialty where the post is located.
  • Extensive experience of working in clinical settings, providing assessment, psychological therapy/ intervention, consultation and advice. This should include experience of working both with neurodivergent children, young people and adults.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of direct assessment and clinical work with neuro-divergent people, their carers or wider family members and ability to undertake this, drawing upon opportunities for continued professional development, if/when needed.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional clinical supervision and consultation. This will include significant experience of working with staff teams to assist with developing psychological formulation and psychologically informed practice.
  • Experience of professional management of qualified clinical psychologists and / or Experience of Clinical Leadership
  • Evidence of continuing professional developments as recommended by the BPS.


Desirable

  • Extensive experience of working in clinical settings with neurodivergent individuals, post qualification, including assessment and providing psychological intervention
  • Experience of representing the profession in local policy fora.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of reviewing serious incidents and reviewing the learning from events
