We are recruiting for a Clinical Trials Lab Officer who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will join the Trust Research and Development Team based at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Northwood, which is part of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and youwill be supporting the delivery of clinical trials within the Cancer Centre.

You will be responsible for undertaking pre-analytical duties of a Laboratory Officer (i.e. the receipt and preparation of samples prior to processing) in addition to responsibility for the day-to-day running and maintenance of the MVCC Clinical Trials Room and associated areas used for sample processing and dispatch.

You will work closely with medical staff, research nurses, coordinators, site-specific teams and oncology groups.

Main duties of the job

Manages the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC) Clinical Trials Room hereafter 'laboratory', and provides an efficient and effective service to the users according to agreed policies and within available resources .

Provides oversight and expertise regarding sample handling and processing to the MVCC teams who use the laboratory.

Operates and maintains specialised laboratory equipment according to departmental and manufacturers' protocols, troubleshooting as and when required.

Undertakes pre-analytical sample processing for interventional and observational trials, including processing of blood samples.

Assist with providing a full range of research administrative and support services to studies undertaken at MVCC.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • oDegree Level Education in scientific/healthcare related discipline or equivalent Experience


Previous Experience

  • Experience of working under minimal supervision
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Experience of utilising laboratory equipment
  • Experience of laboratory computing systems

  • Understands the importance and role of audit
