The role of Freedom to Speak Up Assistant Guardian is to ensure that colleaguesfeel as confident as possible in raising concerns regarding working practices and patients safety. The post holder will work as a Freedom to Speak Up Assistant Guardian promoting our open and transparent speak up culture at LSCft, through engagement with staff, patients, managers, triumvirates, and stakeholders.
The Trust is fortunate to have a over 60 Freedom to Speak Up Ambassadors across the Trust, offering all colleagues an equal and activesupport service.
The post holder will manage the operational function of the Speak Up service, which sits within the Compliance and Improvement Directorate, and provide supervision and support to Ambassadors within the Trust, where required.

The Freedom to Speak Up Guardian will:
- Work across the Trust supporting it to be a safer place for staff and a more open place to work.
- Work with the Chief Executive and Board to help create an open culture based on listening and learning and not blaming.
- Develop, alongside the Board, Chief Executive and Executive Team a range of mechanisms, in addition to the formal processes, which empower and encourage staff to speak up safely.
- Ensure that staff with disabilities and those from black and other minority ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to speak out and are not disadvantaged by doing so.
- Ensure that information regarding how to speak out is shared with all staff.
- Work independently.
- Develop a safe culture which supports and encourages staff to speak up using the local procedures and if necessary advising front line staff on how to raise concerns.
- Act in an independent and impartial capacity, listening to staff and supporting them to raise concerns they may have by using the available structures and policies, both within the organisation and outside.
