The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to provide clinical excellence within the community with specific emphasis on safeguarding support for a caseload of vulnerable women. Supporting clinical and organisational safeguarding arrangements predominantly in the community setting but also supporting discharge planning meetings for vulnerable women and families, enabling the women of Coventry and Warwickshire to receive high quality continuity of care in the antenatal and postnatal period.

The Midwife will work closely with the community midwives within the teams allocated, co-ordinating and attending case conferences and core group meetings in collaboration with Team Leader and Community Manager to ensure that the woman has midwifery representation as part of the wider Safeguarding Working Together partnership working.

Main duties of the job

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients supporting the team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of her/his clinical skill
  • Participates in community midwifery on call rot
  • Participates in regular clinical orientation updates within maternity inpatient services as part of mandatory training
  • Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate
  • Act for team leader in her/his absence
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills relating to safeguarding practices and policies.

    Job responsibilities

    To work closely with the Trusts Named Professionals to develop policy and practice including specialist midwives.

    To assist staff in preparing reports and witness statements and support them if they are required to attend court.

    To work with clinical staff to ensure appropriate supervision and visiting arrangements are in place for parents who have restricted access to their baby.

    To Develop and educate staff, participating in mentorship and appraisal as required.

    To participate in teaching and preparation for parenthood sessions.

    Report the position of safeguarding to the Director of Midwifery on a regular basis.
