Our trust wide specialist rotation in Stroke, Neurosciences and inpatient and community Neurorehablitation currently has a vacancy for a permanent dynamic and motivated band 6 Occupational Therapist.

Our Occupational Therapists are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams across neurosciences. As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to provide high quality occupational therapy to patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme whilst growing your specialist experience and leadership skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Each specialty has support of both band 7 & 8 Clinical therapists to support your clinical and professional development in addition to your peer group with regular peer support meetings and buddy system to support your transition into the trust. We actively support CPD through an established performance development review (PDR) system, in-service training and external courses. There are also opportunities to undertake formal postgraduate study.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality Occupational Therapy to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. To participate in a cross site rotational scheme, providing a high standard of Occupational Therapy to patients within the neurosciences rotations. To perform Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To undertake a significant clinical caseload working as an autonomous practitioner at a specialist level with other health professionals.

To support service development within the team, to implement policy and policy changes within the clinical area in partnership with MDT colleagues.

To present a positive and inspirational role model for all team members as well as supervising band 3, 4 or 5 staff members and participating within the student fair share model of offering practice placements.

Job responsibilities

The job holder is required to work at weekends covering stroke weekend service as part of their contracted hours of work (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Adequate level of English to fulfil job requirements


Desirable

  • Membership of BAOT/ COT
  • Practice placement course
  • Course in prescription of wheelchairs and seating


Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with patients with neurological conditions
  • Ability to work in a team - OT and multidisciplinary
  • Ability to manage a clinical caseload and cope with pressures and prioritisation of caseload
  • Skills in managing mental health issues associated with the clinical caseload


Desirable

  • Experience of giving supervision / teaching
  • Experience in rehabilitation environments.


Skills/knowledge/abilities

Essential

  • Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of occupational therapy intervention with patients with neurological conditions
  • Liaison with professional colleagues, carers and relatives in the hospital and community


Desirable

  • Experience with specialist neurological assessments & Intervention e.g. standardised cognitive assessments, complex postural management, complex tone management, PDOC assessment
  • Experience in reading, understanding and critiquing relevant evidence base and implement in to clinical practice
