The BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Primary Care Complex Emotional Needs Team is a developing service aimed at offering evidence based interventions to clients (primarily young adults between the ages of 18 and 25) within the primary care setting. As a result of transformation funding, we have been working over the last year to develop a short term, DBT informed group intervention to help clients to develop skills in emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance. In order to help us deliver this intervention we are looking for four enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Associate Psychologist join our team on a fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

The principal purpose of the job is to work alongside a psychological therapist to provide assessment, formulation and treatment for clients leading on to co-delivering the group intervention and maintenance group. The successful applicant will join a collaborative and passionate team who are focused on improving the lives of people who have complex emotional needs who may have a diagnosis of personality disorder.

Whilst the service is across BSW this role will predominantly work in the BaNES locality, with some work in to Swindon and Wiltshire as required. This work will be supported by the existing personality disorder pathway team (Clinical Lead, for 18-25, 4 x B7 specialist practitioners across BSW) and existing staff within Core teams.We will provide you with regular and robust clinical supervision, and opportunities to offer training and consultation to other services

Job responsibilities

With support of the service lead and locality PC CEN psychological practitioner the post holder will support the implementation and delivery of the 18-25 early intervention model. This will involve liaison with Primary Care Services, G.Ps and partners organisations to promote a new treatment pathway. The post holder will support the management of referrals for this pathway and will be supported to offer initial triage, as well as providing a clinical service to people experiencing complex emotional needs/ or difficulties consistent with a diagnosis of personality disorders .

The post holder is based with the expanding Personality disorders pathways team for Adults, which sits within the wider Community Mental Health Service.

The primary focus for the post holder is in working with clients accessing treatment through the personality disorder pathway, though the post holder will also contribute to, and is part of, the broader team.

In addition the post holder is responsible for liaising and working with other professionals as appropriate, alongside the promotion and development in the service of the 18-25 early intervention approach.

You will work with other senior colleagues in the continuing development of a high quality service that is underpinned by evidence based practice and care pathways / packages and NICE guidance and DH guidance leading on service development and policy in conjunction with the other senior clinicians, and the Clinical Lead.
  • To fulfil a comprehensive role as a clinical associate psychologist within the personality disorder pathway team.
  • To carry out specialist assessments and provide specialist therapy to individuals and groups as appropriate and maintain associated records.
  • To undertake Research and Development, service evaluation and clinical audit.
  • To support the team to deliver training to staff in the personality disorder pathway and other staff where appropriate.

    Essential

    • Qualified CAP


    Desirable

    • Qualified CAP with post qualification experience
    • Post qualification experience in working with CEN


    Experience

    Essential

    • Has experience of working with CEN clients within training or post qualification


    Desirable

    • Has experience in assessing/ formulating CEN clients
    • DBT / CBT training


    Skills

    Essential

    • Can demonstarte continued CPD / Development


    Desirable

    • Has engaged in other training / work associated with CEN
    • Has engaged in training for ASD / ADHD
