Undergraduate Medical Education requires committed and interested staff to enable medical and physician associate students to make the most of the teaching opportunities available.

We have a post for a Paediatric Nurse Teaching Fellow to join the team. This role will involve teaching alongside the current designated specialty teams while taking a lead in some of the more complex planning of the paediatric curriculum and delivery of key concepts of medical education.

This post offers the opportunity to gain broad teaching experience and paediatric specific planning and delivery of the curriculum. There are no existing designated clinical sessions as the post is 100% teaching.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include planning, delivery and evaluation of the Medical Undergraduate Curriculum for Newcastle University medical students.

Candidates must be a NMC Registered Nurse with experience of autonomous working

Candidates must possess a Degree in a health care related or educational subject

They should be able to work as effectively as part of a team with both autonomous as well as delegated responsibilities. Prior involvement in undergraduate or other structured training/teaching is useful as the role involves being able to take a lead in teaching and learning activities, ensuring effective time management and having great organisational skills.

Good generic medical knowledge is essential, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills, and previous experience of working as a Nurse in a NHS setting.

The Nurse Teaching Fellow is an essential member of a well-established team within undergraduate/ postgraduate Medical Education delivery. The Nurse Teaching Fellows co-ordinate with the team to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate medical school education in both the classroom and clinical environment for students across the five years of the MBBS programme. The post holder will be responsible for developing and organising clinical rotations, delivering evidence based teaching sessions, mentoring medical students and providing pastoral support.

Working collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Lecturer and the Medical Teaching Fellows, they will establish and maintain clinical standards while ensuring that the medical curriculum is being delivered successfully at STSFT. They will have core specialist skills in Child Health and will act as both an autonomous practitioner and a source of expertise in these areas with students, colleagues and patients. Actively integrating theory and practice, they will ensure operational delivery of the curriculum within the STSFT medical education faculty, to ensure all teaching areas are fulfilled. The Nurse Teaching Fellow will be expected to demonstrate innovative teaching and lecturing skills across a wide range of educational opportunities, including lectures, tutorials, bedside teaching / teaching in the clinical areas, mock ward and simulation sessions. The role requires the use of advanced technology with video and live streaming options.

Essential
