The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is at the leading edge of developments in orthopaedics and provides highly specialised care for a national, regional and local population. The podiatry department is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialist MSK Podiatrist for this exciting role to lead the podiatry service and support the development of MSK services and podiatry within the Trust.

The outpatient podiatry and physiotherapy departments, ROH at College Green, have recently relocated to a purpose built facility with significant investment from the Trust to support and develop rehabilitation services. The new facility provides a modern environment, including clinic rooms, a specialist podiatry clinic room, a paediatric unit, studio and gymnasium with state of the art equipment.

The post holder will be committed to providing an effective and efficient service for podiatry patients requiring musculoskeletal out-patient podiatry treatment. This role will combine clinical work with the management of the podiatry service. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the development and daily running of the podiatry service.

Staff development is positively encouraged at undergraduate, post-graduate and research levels and supported by regular in-house training. Clinical support and development is available from a team of APP's. The department has close links with Research and Development, with audit and research actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The post will combine clinical and managerial responsibility and the successful candidate will lead the podiatry service within MSK outpatients. This will involve responsibility for the daily running, management and development of the service.

The post holder will work primarily in the Musculoskeletal Therapy Service, providing highly specialised treatment to individuals with musculoskeletal pathologies. They will work as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for supervision and management of more junior staff.

Clinically the role will involve utilising highly specialised assessment and treatment skills and being responsible for the implementation and review of non-surgical management of foot and related pathologies. Treatment will include biomechanical assessment and treatment with provision of orthoses and exercises, footwear advice and onward referral. Joint multi-disciplinary clinics are also run with a physiotherapist. There is opportunity to be involved with heel pain clinics, including the delivery of shockwave therapy.

The post holder will be supported by a large multi-disciplinary team within Therapy Services and Advanced Practice Podiatrists will support and mentor the successful individual.

Qualifications

Essential

• HCPC registered podiatrist with BSc degree or equivalent

Desirable

• Post graduate studies

Experience

Essential

• Extensive experience in musculoskeletal and biomechanical specialities including orthoses provision , stock control.
• Experience of gait analysis and use of gait analysis equipment (such as foot pressure symptoms)
• Experience of training / teaching other healthcare professionals

Desirable

• Experience in musculoskeletal injection therapy
• Experience of working in collaboration with foot and ankle surgeons

Skills and knowledge

Essential

• Good IT skills
• Able to provide expert clinical advice to a range of colleagues
• Able to deliver expert assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal podiatry patients, working as an unsupervised autonomous practitioner.

• Excellent communication skills with ability to deal with sensitive and emotional circumstances
• Demonstrates initiative and innovation
