An exciting and rare opportunity is currently available for a band 5 mental health or learning disabilities nurse to work as a community nurse within Northumberland CYPS neurodevelopmental pathway.

The post holder must be dynamic and use their initiative, have excellent organisational skills and show commitment to delivering high quality care to young people and their families. They must be honest, respectful and show care and compassion at all times.

They will have an excellent knowledge of the diagnostic criteria for autism and adhd and how this may present in a child or young person.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people. They will carry out play based assessments and clinical interviews with young people and their parents/carers. They will also deliver social communication groups with young people to assess their interactions while undergoing an autism assessment.

They will work within the multidisciplinary team which consists of nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, support workers, psychologists and doctors.

They will manage their own diary with the possibility for flexible and hybrid working. It is essential that the post holder is able to travel around Northumberland and desirable that they have a driving license in order to do this.

Person Specification



  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team

  • First Level Registered Nurse- mental health or learning disabilities


  • Further training relevant to the post



  • Experience during training or post qualification working in a mental health, LD or neurodevelopmental setting


  • Experience working in the community
