The Specialty Doctor will join a forward thinking, motivated and enthusiastic Older Adult Mental Health Directorate, undergoing positive change, which is actively shaping services at present. There are strong links between the members of the multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams, GP's and voluntary agencies.
The following list indicates the initiatives currently high on the strategic agenda:
Forging closer working links with Social Service colleagues Forging closer links with third sector providers Forging closer links with community frailty service Developing alternatives to admissions within Older Adult Mental Health services, including provision of 7 day extended hours CMHTs Ongoing review and development of memory assessment and review services Developing Care Home in-reach services Implementing the All Wales Dementia Pathway of Care Standards

Main duties of the job
The appointee will become a valuable and senior member of the older adult mental health team and respond to referrals and requests from members who need advice in the day to day management of patients in any setting within the Torfaen Borough
Aneurin Bevan Older Adult Mental Health Service provides specialist services for outpatient, inpatient, day patient and community support for an over 65yrs population of about 120,000 in the boroughs of Newport, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Monmouthshire. There is an OAMH senior doctor team of 10 Consultants, 3 Staff Grades and 6 junior doctors. The Torfaen Older Adult Team serves an Older Adult population of approximately 19,000. The OAMH services are well developed in line with previous Intelligent Targets of the Welsh Government with memory clinics, general hospital liaison and care home inreach. There is an active training program for junior doctors run at St Cadoc's Hospital which the post holder would be encouraged to join and there are also opportunities to join in clinical audit and research. The team in Torfaen is a multi-disciplinary team with a base in Ty Siriol Unit, County Hospital, this team has very active Occupational Therapy and Psychology departments.
