Exciting changes are happening in our team with great opportunities ahead in our recently Integrated Children's Occupational Therapy service in Waltham Forest, London.

Are you enthusiastic about enabling children and young people to participate in all areas of life as best they can? Do you have Band 6 or 7 experience of working in children's community services or CAMHS? Then we would love to hear from you!

We are looking for an innovative therapist, to work with the CAMHS team. This job would be an opportunity to gain experience and develop specialist skills in a supportive, friendly and diverse team environment. There is a well-established appraisal system and a commitment to support staff to develop leadership and clinical skills, through regular supervision and internal and external training opportunities. Band 7 staff receive regular clinical supervision from the clinical lead, and have access to peer support.

The Children's Occupational Therapy Team are based in a purpose-built centre, co-located with many other health and local authority children's services in Waltham Forest. Therapists have good access to clinical space as well as close working relations with the multi-disciplinary teams.

The successful candidate will work jointly with CAMHS clinicians including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and speech therapist to complete neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people who may have conditions such as ASD and ADHD.

Main duties of the job

Working in the CAMHS neurodevelopmental clinic, you will bring an occupational focus to the assessments, and help identify how sensory differences, and other factors may be affecting the child or young person's activities of daily living. You will provide advice to parents, school and young people to help them understand this and support the young person.

You will strive to equip children and young people to develop independence and self management and to participate in all that supports their leading full and happy lives.

You will hold a caseload, including completing post assessment reports, referrals and potentially run a post diagnosis group, CYGNET, jointly with a speech therapist.

You will need to demonstrate excellent clinical knowledge, ability to provide highly specialist assessment and advanced therapeutic skills as well as high standards of time management and organisational skills. You will have excellent communication skillsand thrive on working as part of a team.

You will be motivated to develop your own learning, contribute to service development and the training and development of colleagues and students. You will be passionate about further developing an effective and responsive integrated service for children and young people and their families/carers in Waltham Forest.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - LondonThis post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of �4,313 and a maximum payment of �5,436 per annum pro rata).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration


Experience

  • 3 years paediatric experience
  • Advice, training and support of more junior staff, students


Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of best practice, evidence base in paediatric OT
  • Advanced knowledge of childhood occupations, development and impact of conditions on these
