Do you have a broad experience in gastroenterology and improving pathways for long term patients? Do you want to improve outcomes for children with gastrointestinal disorders?

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join a supportive multidisciplinary team to improve both inpatient and outpatient care within our network.

We will consider applications from senior Band 5 nurses as a developmental post. The successful candidate will be in post as a B6 until competencies met to move to the B7 post.

Main duties of the job

The successful individual will have substantial post registration experience as a senior nurse looking after patients with gastrointestinal disorders.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you would bring excellent clinical skills and knowledge, and a desire to maintain and role model a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

You should have evidence of prior autonomous working and are committed to continuously developing professional skills.

You will benefit from excellent support from the multidisciplinary team and CNS peers.

As part of this role you will conduct and analyse physiological studies for children and young people with motility disorders. The team will support your training to do this.

Job description

Job responsibilities

In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service for children with GI conditions ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care.

They will act as a lead specialist and will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients.

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Also ensures the safety and wellbeing of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Education/Professional/ Statutory Registration

Essential

  • BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
  • Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience.
  • RN1 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of specialty.


Experience

Essential

  • Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within a specialist area delivering effective patient focused care
  • Experience of audit, research & evidence based care


Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability

Essential

  • Evidence of teaching skills in particular teaching patients in how to manage their conditions and raise their awareness of their condition.
  • Proven listening / counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situation and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes.
  • Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty
  • Ability to clinically lead & influence staff
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Able to use skills of history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care
