Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) -We are looking to recruit two band 7 infection prevention and control nurses to join the IPCT base at Barnet and Chase Farm hospital (part of the Royal Free London group). We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, motivated and/or experienced infection prevention & control nurse to take up a post within our IPCT. You must have or be working towards level 3 Infection prevention and control modules, studying and /or completed a full BSc in Infection prevention and Control. You should have minimum two years' experience in infection prevention and control working as band 6 or above. You will need to have a recognised teaching qualification with proven leadership and management qualities. The individual will be required to carry out audits, risk assessments, provide support to clinical areas and give expert advice to all Divisions of the trust. This post requires travelling to other trust premises and therefore candidates must be able to get around the trust sites in a timely and efficient manner. You must have enthusiasm to continue professional self development and development of others. You will need to demonstrate your expertise and the contribution you can make to building a team, maintaining and improving trust infection rates and leading the trust forward as a centre of world class care.

Education & professional Qualifications


  • RGN (A) essential
  • Appropriate teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience (A) essential.
  • Degree level education/ modules in infection prevention and control

  • Current experience in infection control (A) essential.
  • Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff

Skills and aptitudes


  • Understanding of clinical risk, clinical governance and national benchmarks.

  • Understanding of national frameworks
  • Evidence of participation in audit and the promotion of evidence based practice


  • Ability to contribute to PDP and appraisal of staff members
  • Able to contribute to business plans, policies and clinical protocols
  • Understanding of effective staff deployment and management of budgets
