We are looking for a Specialist Nurse to join our team!
The Community Paediatric Medical Service (CPMS) is staffed by a range of medical staff (Consultants, Associate Specialists and Trainees), nurses, clinic support workers and business support. They assess and manage children with a wide range of neurodevelopmental conditions. This includes children undergoing assessment for possible autism, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, genetic syndromes and other conditions in Portsmouth and Southeast Hampshire. You will be part of the team that supports this and will undertake the long term follow up of children with a neurodisability who require ongoing surveillance and you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of therapists and other health professionals.
You will support and carry out neurodevelopmental paediatric outpatient clinics in Portsmouth City and in Southeast Hampshire, and support specialist paediatric clinics such as sleep related issues, ASD, feeding difficulties, special school clinics and others. You will also be part of the Child Protection Team that undertakes child protection medical assessments for children where abuse is suspected.
Main duties of the job
*The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work within the Community Paediatric Medical Service to support the management of children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions.
*Care is based on comprehensive assessment, ensures continuity and is patient/client centred, culturally sensitive and evidence-based which promotes independence.
*Following training and induction, the Nurse Specialist will work towards using expert clinical judgement in relation to the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients, undertaking a range of clinical actions including developmental assessment and review of the health needs of children with long term conditions affecting their development.
*Support in covering the Child Protection (CP) rota to support the Medical Team undertake child protection medicals.
*Supervise junior members of staff and students on placement.
*To develop and maintain a culture of service improvement which promotes quality and safety and striving to do better.
*This is in line with the requirements set out in the NMC code which require all registered nurses to: Prioritise people Practice effectively Preserve safety Promote professionalism and trust.

- BSc Nursing or RN currently registered with NMC
- Paediatric or Learning Disability or Public Health Nurse qualification
- Post-Registration clinical work experience including working with children and families.
