We are recruiting for a Assistant/Trainee Child and Adolescent Psychotherapistwho wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. This is an exciting opportunity for a fully funded trainee Child Psychotherapist post on the Isle of Wight to be part of our multi-disciplinary CAMHS Team.

There will be the opportunity to work alongside our colleagues in social services and our local schools to support our holistic approach in working with our young people.

Our team consists of Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Specialist Nursing staff, Inreach / Outreach Community Nurses, Systemic Family Therapists, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, social workers, and Primary Mental Health Practitioners from a variety of backgrounds. We also have Psychology, Psychiatry and Nursing trainees regularly on placement.

The clinical staff group is well supported by our excellent administration team. The work is varied and challenging and balances the opportunity to provide direct therapeutic support to our most vulnerable young people and the opportunity to help us develop a service for children and young people, their families, and carers as well as to offer more generic input to the Island population.

Main duties of the job

There is scope and to provide consultation to Tier 1 and 2 services and there will be opportunities to develop your therapeutic skills through training and continuing professional development to enhance the skill-mix of the team.

This post is a Health Education England Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist funded post based in the Community CAMHS team on the Isle of Wight. The post consists of up to 1 year (2nd Year) of the pre-clinical training. The applicant in the 2nd Year of their clinical training would be eligible for a post as an assistant within the team on a fixed term contract.

Upon acceptance by a recognised training school the Assistant shall progress to become a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in training and receive a fixed term contract of 4 years as a trainee. If the Assistant is not accepted by a recognised training school the contract will be terminated. The Assistant should be following the post graduate MA course in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies, or ACP registered equivalent, at the point of taking up the post. The post is full-time and consists of 0.8 sessions with the CAMHS Team and 0.2 sessions at the training school.

We will accept applicants at the following points in their training:
  • Year 2 In second year of ACP pre-clinical recognised training course and able to be employed as a Band 5 Assistant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist for one year.
  • Year 3-6 Having been accepted by ACP recognised clinical training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in an ACP approved training school and will be based in CAMHS for the duration of the training and will be employed as a Band 6 Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in training.

    The role is to undertake a range of clinical work under supervision whilst undertaking training at an ACP registered training school.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications and role specific knowledge

    Essential

    • Have been accepted for or undertaking an ACP recognised pre-clinical Child Psychotherapy training and already in year 1 of an ACP recognised pre-clinical training before commencing with the intent to do the full four-year clinical training once the pre-clinical training has been completed.
    • Specialist knowledge and application of Child Psychotherapist interventions relevant to client group.
    • Knowledge and application of standardised assessments and outcome measures.
    • Detailed knowledge of mental health legislation and current practice.


    Desirable

    • Post-graduate Mental Health Diploma or higher degree.


    Physical Skills

    Essential

    • Participation in teaching or training.
    • Experience of working with children, young people and families using a therapeutic approach.


    Desirable

    • Experience of working with diverse communities and within a multicultural setting.
    • Experience of individual therapeutic work with children and young people.


    Aptitudes

    Essential
