Hascombe Ward is a 23 bedded ward and paediatric assessment/ambulatory unit. We care for children and young people under many different specialities including general paediatrics/medicine, ENT, maxillo-facial, ophthalmology, general surgery and orthopaedics.

We are a designated level 2 Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) providing shared care to children and young people from the surrounding area.

The ward is supported by a range of nurse specialists including oncology, mental health, learning disability, epilepsy, diabetes, and we have a dedicated paediatric practice development nurse.

We are looking for Band 5 staff nurses, both experienced and newly qualified, to join our friendly and supportive team. The trust runs a robust 12 month preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses, our team on the ward will support you through this, enabling you to consolidate your skills. Experienced nurses can look forward to working in a caring and supportive team looking after a diverse variety of patients which will enhance your skills, and enable you to gain new ones. There are frequent opportunities for learning both on site and externally and the team are keen to support your ongoing development.

Main duties of the job

To work as an accountable, registered nurse acting in the best interests of your patients at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct. To be responsible for patient assessment, planning and implementing the delivery of safe, compassionate and evidence based care, and evaluating it's effectiveness. To work with in the multi-disciplinary team, including assisting in the education of learners. As a Trust employee, to act with integrity and uphold the Trust values and the NMC Code of Conduct.

Essential

• Registered Children's Nurse (Part 1 of NMC register) - or equivalent
• Evidence of on-going dynamic continuing professional development

Desirable

• Possession of a relevant degree or in process of attaining
• Assessing and mentoring qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
• Recent paediatric nursing experience
• Effective time management
• Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
• Ability to work independently and as part of a Multidisciplinary team

Desirable

• Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
