The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to join MFT at a time when Manchester is at the forefront of healthcare redesign, developing a model of care that will help the NHS and other care providers in Greater Manchester provide quality services that are safe, accessible and sustainable for future generations. In light of these changes we are looking for a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated registered practitioner (Nurse ) with excellent clinical knowledge in Anaesthetic and Recovery to join our team and take a leading role.

Primarily the role will be based in Wythenshawe Hospital Burns Theatre however, there are 5 theatre suites across Wythenshawe Trafford, Withington & Altrincham (WTWA) with a total of 27 operating theatres across the directorate providing a range of specialist surgery, and from time to time there may be the expectation to work across sites.

Main duties of the job

The role of the anaesthetic and recovery operating department practitioner is to provide high standards of peri-operative care to patients whilst also giving skilled support to surgeons, anaesthetist and or the team working in theatres. As practitioners need a broad knowledge and skill base that includes excellent communication , management and teamworking skills as they are involved with the assessment, delivery and evaluation of peri-operative care: The anaesthetic phase, the surgical phase and recovery phase, ensuring the safety and comfort of patient at all times. Preparing the anesthetic equipment and room and assist the anesthetist throughout maintaining aseptic technique.

Receive post-operative patients from the surgical team along with all relevant paperless documentation via our HIVE system, ensuring all information pertaining to the patients care is correctly uploaded and handed over need, from both the surgical and anaesthetic teams. Participating in the post-operative recovery of patients at all levels of dependency, ensuring the patients recover safely from their surgery and anaesthetic.

Ensure the patient meets the discharge criteria prior to returning to the ward area and priorities safe and effective transfer of information regarding the patient's perioperative journey is handed over to the ward using the SBAR process for handover to the ward.
