To manage the day to day running of the Ward Services department. This involves the preparation of rotas, planning and delivering training, following up queries and the allocation and delegation of daily tasks based on staff strengths and skill mix to meet the needs of the department.
To be the professional lead in Ward Services and to be responsible for the accurate and timely receipt and distribution of pharmaceutical stock within the pharmacy department.
To ensure that a robust process is in place and adhered to for accurately checking received goods are correct and fit for purpose.
To ensure delivery errors are promptly investigated and resolved in a timely manner including quarantining stock, maintaining accurate records and communicating with external sources to return unwanted, damaged or excess stock in a timely manner.
To contribute to providing a high-quality dispensing service, including the dispensing of controlled drugs, outpatient prescriptions, IV prescriptions, medications for our peripheral units and hospice.
To act as a practice supervisor for all trainees requiring training in Ward Services including Foundation Trainee Pharmacists, Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and new starters.Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential
- GPhC registered
- ACT qualified
- Significant hospital experience post qualification
- Management experience including conducting appraisals and dealing with poor performance
- Experience of managing a team in the daily running of a service
- Significant experience in a purchasing department/team
- Experience using the EPIC computer system
- Experience of leading a change management project
- Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in the workplace
- Able to communicate information to service users regarding medicines and find alternate strategies when there are communication difficulties
- Ability to anticipate difficulties and take appropriate action
- Reliable and motivated
