Are you an OT Student due to qualify or a Band 5 looking for an exciting new challenge? Are you looking to work with a dynamic and innovative team, and develop transferrable skills in a number of specialisms within elderly rehabilitation?

We have an amazing opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our established and clinically diverse Band 5 post within the Petersfield Inpatient Team.

This post will enable you to develop and consolidate your core OT skills in the OT Process, provide a greater understanding of the wider Multi disciplinary team and consider how services link together to support patients on their journey. You will gain experience working with patients from aged 18 to over 100 from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

The supervisor will support you to allocate referrals to you within your competence levels, providing ongoing support throughout. Supervision will be provided regularly on an informal and formal basis. Further sources of support are provided through structured preceptorship programme and a Band 5 peer support meeting. In-service training is also provided in, for example, 24 hour postural management, falls prevention, managing challenging behaviour in Dementia and cognitive assessments.

This is a fantastic and exciting opportunity to develop a career in Occupational Therapy.

Main duties of the job

You will holistically promote the function and safety of patients in hospital to optimise discharge to their own homes. Your caseload will be clinically diverse with a wide variety of long term conditions. You will work closely with family/informal carers and formal carers to enable them to support patients throughout and beyond your intervention.

You will grow in your professional development, focusing on both your clinical and managerial skills. You will be supported to develop your assessment skills through functional, environmental and cognitive assessments, moving and handling and with implementation of these assessments to help patients to identify meaningful and realistic goals. You will learn how to assist patients to achieve these goals through a range of interventions, and finally how to evaluate these interventions. You will learn key transferrable managerial skills such as planning, prioritisation, time management and communication skills vital for effective teamwork and liaison with MDT and family and/or carers.

You will need a Degree or diploma in OT and HCPC registration. You will need to be a car driver and have access to a car for work. There may be an opportunity to start working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant while waiting for HCPC registration prior to the start of the post- this can be negotiated at interview.
