We are looking for a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Team at Frays Ward. This is an inpatient, male only an acute adult unit located at the Riverside Centre, Hillingdon Hospital.

This post presents a wonderful opportunity and exposure to a wide range of clinical settings, and genuinely interesting and rewarding clinical practice for all clinicians looking to develop or wanting to share their expertise.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have principal duties to provide clinical care to Hillingdon patients admitted to Frays Ward, Riverside Centre.

Provide leadership for the performance and culture of the ward, ensuring best practice is employed across the facility, and that the Trusts quality and productivity targets are met.

To participate in quality improvement and service evaluation projects and will be encouraged to undertake any research which may be relevant to either short or long-term service improvement.

To provide overall clinical leadership for the Ward Multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments and consultations for the Team, including the following:

Attendance at the daily bed management meeting.

Daily whiteboard attendance.

Attending weekly borough bed management meetings.

Datix/quality agenda huddle.

Leadership role in the QI (Quality Improvement) agenda.

Regular meeting with the matron and ward manager to address quality and staffing issues.

Responding to family and carers within reasonable time frames. The consultants time on the ward should be allocated by a booking system to ensure that reviews occur in a timely manner and patients and families are aware of the expectations.

Line management and clinical supervision of junior and higher trainees and specialty doctors on the ward.

Medical input, consultation and clinical leadership to the ward, and overall clinical responsibility for patients admitted to the unit.

Medical input and leadership in care planning and risk assessment for patients subject to the care planning (CPA) process.

Clinical supervision of Trainee, Foundation Year and Specialty Grade doctors working with the team.

Responsible Clinician responsibilities with attendance at and report-writing for Mental Health Tribunals and Managers hearings.

Regular clinical liaison with the Community Consultants in the Psychological Medicines (A+E Liaison), Community Mental Health Teams and the Home Treatment Team to ensure timely discharge of patients.

RC and AC responsibility reverts back to the community consultants upon discharge from the ward.

Educational and professional qualifications

Essential

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • Approved Clinician status
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date


Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD)
  • Management and leadership training.


General knowledge/ experience & core skills

Essential

  • Experience of assessment and treatment of mental disorders in an acute psychiatric setting
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of CPA approach
  • Experience and Training in Health Service Management
  • IT skills
  • Evidence of completed clinical audit/quality improvement projects
  • Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate trainee teaching


Desirable

  • Experience of service development/business planning
