An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated Band 7 Physiotherapist to develop their skills and knowledge as a Physiotherapy Team Lead.

The post holder will have a clinical caseload in medicine / care of the elderly and will have 30% of their job plan allocated to team leader responsibilities for the area of medicine.

The team lead portfolio for medicine will support teams including front of house, cardiorespiratory and neurology. All teams are led by a Band 7 Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist who manages the teams on a day to day basis.

You will be expected to work closely with the Physiotherapy Service Lead and have an overview of the services within medicine, physiotherapy resources for this area, and service development requirements.

You will support the Physiotherapy Service Lead with payroll, finance, incident investigations and complaints.

The successful candidate will be supported by the Physiotherapy Service Lead and the team lead for surgery. This will provide opportunities for leadership development alongside access to formal leadership training.

The Trust operates 7 day working and the post holder will be required to participate in this, which includes weekends and twilight shifts across the 7 days (12:00 - 20:00 shift).

Please note: this post does not include an overnight on call requirement.

Main duties of the job

To assist with providing visible and professional clinical leadership across the service working in collaboration with the other Team leads and assist the Physiotherapy Service Lead and Service Line Manager on professional matters

To contribute to the ongoing development of a high quality, clinically effective Physiotherapy service by enabling staff in designated teams to work within professional and governance frameworks

To include day to day allocation of resources within the service, including supervision and support of staff and students in designated areas.

To be an authorized signatory for timesheets

To deputise for the Physiotherapy Service Lead as required

To be responsible for the day to day operations

To manage a clinical caseload undertaking the assessment, management and appropriate treatment of patients. This care will be provided in a range of environments within community or hospital settings

To work closely with the Admin Manager Physiotherapy Service Lead and Service Line Manager in support of waiting list management in order to meet targets and quality indicators.

Support with the management of the designated staff effectively to include appraisals, sickness absence, recruitment and retention, performance management, study leave and staff rotations as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

To support the Physiotherapy Service Lead and Service Line Manager in dealing with concerns and complaints from patients and relatives and actively seek solutions to problems to improve the patient experience. Investigate and respond to incidents and complaints according to Trust policies and procedures.

To support the Physiotherapy Service Lead and Service Line Manager with the provision of professional physiotherapy advice with regard to patient pathways

Ability to demonstrate well developed negotiating and persuasive skills as required, along with the ability to influence and motivate a team within a changing environment

Will be responsible for day to day allocation of staff within the designated services and be responsive to service wide requirements and the changing needs of the services.

Ability to assist with planning future services in response to user needs and commissioner requirements through business and action planning.

Will be required to contribute to surge and business continuity planning development.

Work as an autonomous practitioner which will require making a diagnosis and formulation of a treatment plan for patients including those with more complex needs.

Ensure paper and electronic documentation is of the highest standard, ensuring compliance with Professional requirements and Trust policies and procedures.

Work collaboratively with other professionals to assist with improvement of services. Support with establishing links with key professionals within the Multi-disciplinary team.

Work with colleagues to develop the current service by means of education, health promotion, audit and research.

Provide clinical expertise and advice to other staff, including Consultants, other Allied Health Professionals, Nurses, patients families and carers as required in order to ensure seamless, timely and relevant care.

To support staff and ensure they adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and maintain safe environments and working practices.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma / Degree / equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist.


Desirable

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Training in leadership / management


Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience and expertise within a specialised area of Physiotherapy
  • Proven NHS experience including work at Band 6 level in a variety of clinical areas.
  • Experience of appraising and supervising staff


Desirable

  • Audit and research
  • Experience of working in the NHS as a leader


Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of up to date clinical / evidenced based practice.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
