Would you like the challenge of working in a complex and developing area? If you do, the ME/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome service may be ideal for you! We are a small but friendly team, who pride ourselves on providing excellent care to patients across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We are recruiting a part-time Band 5 Therapist, with the possibility of working virtually from home some of the time. This will initially be available as a one-year fixed term post or secondment, and your working pattern will be 3 days/week, within office hours. We would be willing to consider a minimum of 2 days/week, and there may be the possibility of linking in with a wider band 5 rotation in future. A robust preceptorship programme is available for newly qualified clinicians.

Main duties of the job

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a service to patients with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, using a biopsychosocial approach. Duties could typically include:
  • Assessments: to undertake holistic assessments and reviews
  • Interventions: to undertake clinical interventions virtually and face-to-face, including energy management and incremental pacing, movement and exercise programmes, sleep hygiene, goal setting, and other relevant interventions for people with ME/CFS.
  • Group work: to assist in the design, delivery and evaluation of groups, and the development of other relevant group activities for people with ME/CFS.
  • Psycho-educational: to research, develop, deliver and evaluate individually tailored psycho-educational interventions for people with ME/CFS and their carers.
  • Research & audit: to contribute to service development and evaluation, and assist in ongoing audit and research projects.
  • Appropriate support and supervision will be offered by experienced therapists.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • Health Professionals Council registration
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development


Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of ME/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, including associated symptoms and challenges that people with the condition face
  • Some knowledge of best practice with this client group


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Teaching and presentation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise work as appropriate


Desirable

  • Experience of group work
  • Experience of working virtually (on-line)


Experience

Essential

  • For PT Experience of working in a variety of specialities or For OT Application of the Occupational Therapy process
  • Use of functional assessment and activity analysis


Desirable

  • Experience working with people who have long term health conditions, such as Post Covid Syndrome, ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, chronic pain, Rheumatoid arthritis, etc.


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Necessary clearances to work within clinical service e.g. DBS/ Home office clearance
  • Ability to travel independently across the counties to meet the demands of the post
