This is an exciting opportunity for a senior physiotherapist to lead physiotherapy provision across the CAR-T and Haematology AHP service at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.You will have responsibility for a clinical caseload spanning outpatient and inpatient settings, using advanced clinical reasoning skills to develop and provide specialist individualised programmes of care to patients undergoing CAR-T cell therapy and other haematology oncology treatments.The successful applicant will have recent, extensive and demonstrable clinical expertise in assessing and treating haematology oncology patients with a good understanding of the effects of immunotherapy, targeted treatments, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatmentsThe post holder will work jointly with a Band 7 Occupational therapist and Band 7 Dietitian, as well as the haematology MDT. Attending clinics and multi-disciplinary team meetings and offering support and interventions on both an informal and formal setting as a keyworker is a vital part of this role. The post holder must therefore be able to work under pressure and manage time and resources effectively.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will lead the Physiotherapy input into the CAR-T and Haematology services within the multidisciplinary setting, across inpatients and outpatients, to deliver high quality assessment and intervention to ensure effective and patient-centred treatments. The successful applicant will work with patients aged 25 and over, managing a range of side effects and providing prehabilitation and rehabilitation to patients receiving haematology oncology treatments. MANAGEMENT

To be directly responsible for and manage the Physiotherapy service for CAR-T and Haematology with support from senior Occupational Therapy and senior Physiotherapy staff.

To conduct personal development review / appraisal on a regular basis in line with Trust policy.

CLINICAL

To co-ordinate and ensure effective delivery of highly specialised physiotherapy treatment to CAR-T in- and outpatients within the Trust using advanced clinical reasoning skills to develop and provide specialist individualised programmes of care before, during and after CAR-T therapy.

As a CAR-T and Haematology oncology specialist to be clinically responsible for a highly complex area of work and independently plan, organise and prioritise patient related and professional demands.

To act as a resource providing specialist and expert advice, teaching and training within and external to the organisation regarding physiotherapy management of CAR-T and haematology patients.

To represent AHPs in appropriate multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert advice to clinicians regarding specialist physiotherapy management for CAR-T and haematology patients based on clinical evidence.

To convey complex specialised physiotherapy advice and lifestyle changes to patients and carers using advanced counselling and communication skills.

To advise, teach and instruct patients, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy in relation to the management of CAR-T and haematology a specialist area of oncology physiotherapy.

To refer patients to primary, secondary or alternative tertiary care for monitoring and therapeutic support following transfer or discharge.

To initiate and implement changes to working practice and policies where this will result in improved performance / patient care across the organisation.

To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation on individual patients in line with local and national standards and be responsible for the appropriate storage of physiotherapy records in line with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Trust policies on confidentiality and GDPR

To provide timely and informative reports and discharge summaries for other agencies, e.g. Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Social Services, Primary Care colleagues to ensure effective and seamless pathways of care.

To train and supervise student physiotherapists, junior staff and assistants.

To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all physiotherapy equipment and ensure that junior staff, assistants, physiotherapy students, carers and other health care professionals attain competency prior to use.

To assist the physiotherapy provision and management in other areas of the hospital during periods of staff absence.

To develop competencies to enable appropriate cross working between the Senior Physiotherapist, Senior Occupational therapist, and Senior Dietitian in CAR-T/ haematology to ensure effective and seamless working

To be an active member of the weekend and on-call service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Physiotherapy Degree or equivalent
• HCPC registration
• Additional training in clinical and medical oncology physiotherapy including haematology

Desirable

• Recognised Postgraduate qualification in Oncology and/or Palliative care Counselling qualifications
• Postgraduate qualification in research methodology
• ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential

• Minimum of 4 years post registration experience, including significant experience in the physiotherapy management of oncology patients including haematology at a senior level.
• Previous involvement in clinical effectiveness and audit projects
• Experience of service development

Desirable

• Experience in the treatment of patients who have MSCC
• Experience of recent involvement in emergency on-call rota
• Experience in managing patients within an acute setting
