Recognised by Heartflow as a centre of excellence, and a service model replicated by other centres our CT cardiac service is radiographer lead and backed up by an elite group of radiologists.

As the lead for this service you will work closely with Service Superintendent, Clinical Lead, Cardiothoracic Radiologists, and Cardiologists to maintain high clinical standard whilst facilitating radiographer training, service development and protocol management. You will also be trained to deliver cardiac drugs and interpret EGC reading to facilitate scanning on a wide variety of patients.

The post will give you the opportunity to build on and extend your clinical expertise and also develop your management and leadership skills as an advanced practitioner.

Main duties of the job

The Department

The CT/MRI department at the Queen Alexandra hospital is a fun, dynamic, vibrant, and progressive department with state-of-the-art technology, located on the South coast of England in a lively city with deep historical roots.

The department has 5 Canon CT scanners two of which are cardiac enabled to support our busy inpatient and outpatient service. The department currently performs 50 cardiac CT examinations per week.

The department is also equipped with both 1.5 and 3T MRI technology 3 MRI scanners.

We are a busy multi-cultural and progressive unit, with a very friendly and caring atmosphere.

This post will require a commitment to the on-call service and both weekend and Bank Holiday working.

Queen Alexandra Hospital is a multi-discipline hospital and offers a full clinical range of examinations and experience and is a centre of excellence for head and neck cancers and renal patients along with a hyper-acute emergency department.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

The post holder will be required to supervise CT/MRI radiographers, Aps, RDAs and students. With specific ESR supervisor access for a maximum of 25 staff

The scanning department currently undertakes about 19,000 patients examinations per annum, of which approximately 15,000 are CT scans and 4,000 are MRI scans

Job Summary:

To work within the local policy of Advanced Practice that applies

Manage and be responsible for staff and resources within a designated clinical area

Deputise for the Superintendent Radiographer

To conduct a wide range of CT/MR scans upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and requirements

To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques and authorise others to do the same

To proactively assist in the management of the MRI and CT scanning departments on a daily basis whilst fostering a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors.

To lead, supervise, and teach senior radiographers, junior radiographers, student radiographers, APs and RDAs and to actively help, teach and support training SPRs.

Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.

Ensuring that at all times you act within your sphere of competence.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Radiology
  • Hold a current state registration certificate
  • 4-5 years post graduate experience
  • Post graduate Masters level education or equivalent to comply with any relevant local advanced practice policies (see appendix)
  • Have a portfolio evidence of CPD


Desirable

  • Extended Clinical role e.g. IV cannulations qualification
  • CT cardiac experience
  • Previous leadership/management experience
