The Radiotherapy Service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is looking for an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer, confident in working in a fast paced multi-professional environment to take a lead role in treatment delivery activities in our forward thinking department.

Our department is a busy centre providing ISO9001:2015 certificated external beam radiotherapy services for Lancashire and South Cumbria .We are part of a Radiotherapy Operational Delivery Network, collaborating with Christie Hospital NHS FT and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS FT to provide high quality radiotherapy across the North West of England. We have seven matched Elekta linear accelerators, two Phillips Big Bore CT scanners and an Xstrahl Superficial unit networked by a MOSAIQ patient management system. Radiographer-led daily IGRT is routine for complex and innovative radiotherapy delivery procedures. We are a commissioned provider of SABR and Intracranial SRS/T and have Surface Guided Radiotherapy systems installed in 6 of our linacs. We participate in multi-centre portfolio research trials. Post-graduate study, research and development and clinical audit is encouraged and supported.

The Radiotherapy Department is part of the Oncology Directorate, located in the Rosemere Cancer Centre on the Royal Preston Hospital site.

This post would be suitable for someone already working at this level, or for a specialist radiographer practitioner looking to develop their career in a leadership position.

Main duties of the job

The role offers a blend of advanced clinical practice and personnel management you will have responsibility for professional clinical supervision and first-line managerial oversight of the superficial x-ray and linear accelerator teams, and provide support to the departmental Senior Leadership team.

You will also provide leadership in an area of specialism driving development and implementation of evidence based practice. This area of specialism will be agreed at Interview.

You will have high standards of professional practice and be a role model for junior staff and pre-registration learners, leading by example to deliver the best possible service to our patients and their carers.

Job responsibilities

Leading the safe, accurate and efficient delivery of external beam radiotherapy and associated activities, the Therapeutic Radiographer Team Leader monitors individual, team and wider treatment delivery teamperformance to ensure high standards of care, information and support while respecting the privacy and dignity of all patients under their care.

They supervise activities in a specified work area, ensuring safe,effective workload management and promoting best practice in technical and patient care.

Undertakes first line management responsibility for own team, providing clinical supervision and support for pre- and post- registration learners.

Provide leadership in an area of specialism driving development and implementation of evidence-based practice, acting as a role model and patient advocate.

Ensure activities that contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment performed in a timely manner to maintain the productive operation of the Radiotherapy Department.

Work with the departmental senior leadership team, acting as Critical friend when required, to optimise the experience of service users and staff in the Radiotherapy department.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of extensive postregistration clinical practice in Therapeutic Radiography
  • Advanced knowledge of treatment delivery equipment, systems and techniques
  • Competence in 2D and 3D verification imaging
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of ability to make advanced clinical decisions.
  • Demonstrates experience of workload management.
  • Knowledge of guidance affecting radiotherapy including incident reporting or guidance affecting incident reporting.
  • Awareness of first line HR management.


Desirable

  • Awareness of the drivers affecting Radiotherapy service provision
  • Experience with Elekta Linear accelerators, XStrahl SXT and MOSAIQ Patient Management system
  • Experience in first line HR management (absence / performance / appraisal)
  • Understanding of principles of person-centred care
  • Experience with 4D verification
  • Experience with SGRT.
  • Understanding and experience of advanced radiotherapy techniques.


Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • UK HCPC Registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer
  • Evidence of post graduate work based learning and / or academic study


Desirable

  • Masters level qualification in Radiotherapy or Health Studies
