We are looking for a dynamic individual who has an interest in specialising in CT scanning.

Encouragement will be given to staff who wish to pursue post graduate studies.

The CT department is equipped with a Siemens Flash Dual Energy / Dual source Scanner and the second CT scanner Aquilion ONE PRISM (Currently being installed)

Key working relationships will be with the CT Lead Radiographer, CT Superintendent Radiographers, Radiologists, Superintendent Radiographers at the site, Rotational radiographers, imaging assistants and other clinical and professional staff.

Training of rotational radiographers in CT will be essential, as will the review and implementation of new scanning protocols in conjunction with Radiologists and ensuring all staff are aware of the new studies/procedures. The candidate will be expected to work weekdays and participate in the evening and weekend shifts in CT. It is essential to have good organisational skills. The candidate will need to be motivated and be able to demonstrate how they motivate their team. The candidate must take an active role in supporting the management structure within the other Imaging Modalities.

Main duties of the job

To support in leading the technical /radiographic staffing across site and further develop an efficient CT at the Newham University Hospital (NUH).

To organise and oversee the training of radiographers and students in all aspects of CT scanning, including comprehensive competency assessments in conjunction with the CT Superintendent.

To develop and maintain the CT service alongside the CT superintendents, standardising protocols, managing the patient bookings and waiting lists, and to manage the rotation of radiographers throughout all areas.

To provide an effective operational lead radiographer role for the CT as required.

In the absence of the CT superintendent to assume the role of leading the staff within CT.

In conjunction with the CT and Managers, promote the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all areas of the CT service using modern methods to improve productivity, lead in the delivery of service and workforce transformation, and re-design.

The post holder will have a modality overview of CT service needs, to ensure effective co-ordination and allocation of resources.The individual will work very closely with the Superintendent radiographer in provision of Imaging Services at this site .

Working closely with the Superintendent Radiographers to develop and maintain cross-Trust integration of Imaging Services, standardising protocols, appointments systems, waiting lists and rotation of radiographers throughout clinical imaging areas.

Manage nominated radiographers.

To take a lead in organising and overseeing the training of radiographers, assistant practitioners and student radiographers in all aspects of CT Scanning.

Promote the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all areas of the department, using modern methods to lead in the delivery of service and workforce transformation and re-design.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• BSc Radiography or DCR
• HCPC State Registration
• Some formal management training
• IV cannulations- or willingness to achieve this skill in house.

Experience

Essential

• Extensive experience as a performing a wide range of CT.
• Wide experience of CT scanning equipment and techniques.
• Experience in training of other staff or students
• Day to day operational management
• Participation in Quality Assurance/Clinical Governance initiatives.

Knowledge

Essential

• Portfolio of evidence of continuing professional development.
• Extensive experience as a radiographer performing a wide range of CT.
• Some knowledge of wider NHS Issues

Skills

Essential

• Teaching and training skills with the ability to adapt training and teaching styles in response to needs of the trainee. Ability to organise and prioritise workload and delegate when required
• Excellent communication skills and presentation skills
• To have effective problem solving skills
• Good computer skills
