An exiting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager role in Costing Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

The post holder will lead the costing team at STH, promoting the use of costing and SLR data throughout the trust and ensuring we make the most of the information available.

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Costing and Contracting in driving the costing agenda, particularly in the move towards quarterly SLR reporting with a focus on increasing engagement in costing processes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform a key role managing and promoting SLR and PLICs within the Trust. In particular the post-holder will:
  • Lead the costing team and ensure the successful production of the Trust's submissions in the Trust National Cost Collection in line with the national guidance and approved methodologies.
  • Help develop the robustness of the process of Service Line Reporting (SLR) arrangements within the Trust in order to assess the profitability of each specialty and sub-specialty.
  • Drive the costing agenda at the trust including the implementation of quarterly monitoring and usage of SLR dashboards
  • Promote the usage of the SLR data across the trust to both finance and non-finance colleagues
  • Train and develop members of the finance team in the usage of the SLR and PLICs data
  • Lead on the production of Education & Training reference costs
  • Ensure costing information is available to be applied to influence and change and operational performance within the Trust.
  • Work closely with the Financial Improvement section providing a wide range of analysis and information based on costing data to aid the Use of Resources agenda.

  • CCAB or CIMA Qualified

  • Relevant Postgraduate Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Sufficient relevant post qualification experience
  • Working Knowledge of finance and accounting practices, procedures and policies particularly pertinent to the NHS
  • Knowledge of NHS Information issues and their application to Costing
  • Demonstrable experience of the management, co-ordination and direction of a Team of Staff producing timely and accurate information.
  • Demonstrable experience of the full range of management accounting and / or costing duties
  • Experience of financial systems and in particular demonstrably good IT skills including Advanced Excel skills and Budgeting software
  • Experience of promotion / engagement of non-finance staff in the use of financial information


Desirable

  • NHS Finance in an Acute Hospital
  • Experience of Integrated ledger systems
  • SQL Skills
