An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the plastic surgery nursing team at UHCW. You will be responsible for the day to day care and management of plastic surgery outpatients attending the plastic dressing clinic.

The department of plastic surgeryprovides a range of services including lower limb reconstruction, hand trauma, breast reconstruction and the treatment of skin cancer with the exception of major burns.

The department has strong links with related specialties including orthopaedics, dermatology and breast surgery

Our Plastics Dressing Clinic is based in an outpatient setting our working week is Monday to Friday. Over two locations University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire and the Hospital of St Cross

Please note this post is not suitable for applicants who are required to undertake the OSCE training programme. Applicants who do not have current valid UK NMC registration will not be considered for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To take responsibility for individualised patient care acting autonomously, using the relevant nursing models and documentation for the department ensuring legibility and accuracy of nursing records
  • To promote safe practice and professional conduct
  • To encourage good working relationships within the multidisciplinary team to ensure the effective communication, care and treatment of patients.

Job responsibilities

Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct.

Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.

Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.

A competent practitioner, teaching, assessing and supervising/providing mentorship to appropriate students or junior staff.

Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and users.

Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities to support patient care pathways.

Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including patient observations equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.

Participate in the renal rotational programme to gain experience in all areas of Renal Medicine and renal replacement therapies. i.e Peritoneal Dialysis and Haemodialysis.

Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.

Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g in an unexpected event.

Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.

Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.

Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
