The Cornwall Speech and Language Therapy service has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join our East Cornwall Team to support both communication and Dysphagia.

The post is an excellent opportunity for a therapist to complete and/or further develop their Dysphagia competencies, as we require someone to offer eating and drinking support in the East Cornwall area. We will consider offering a full Dysphagia training package for any therapists not yet qualified to work in Dysphagia but that are motivated to work in this area.

You will also hold a mixed community caseload and offer support in education settings, through home visits and clinic appointments in the East Cornwall area, such as Bude and Torpoint area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to:

• participate in the delivery of a speech and language therapy service providing specialist assessments, intervention and advice for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs and swallowing difficulties
• To guide, educate and work alongside parents, carers and other professionals to support children and young people with speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs.
• To participate in clinical governance and service development within the Speech and Language Therapy teams in partnership with professional specialists, and other clinical leads.
• To participate in the universal and targeted offer of the SALT service through providing advice and information

Person Specification

Education / Qualification

Essential

• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification).
• To have fully signed-off the Newly Qualified Practitioner Competencies as set out by the Royal College of Speech Language Therapists.
• Registration with Health Professions Council
• Have evidence of attending and using specialist knowledge gained from post-graduate study and attending courses.
• Dysphagia qualification

Desirable

• Membership of the RCSLT
• Fieldwork educator / Clinical placement supervisor /Experience as a clinical educator of SLT students

Experience

Essential

• Clinical experience of working with autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs
• Highly developed skills of clinical assessment, evaluation and intervention for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.
• Experience of working with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, with an understanding of team roles and professional roles

Desirable

• Experience of evaluating service delivery and monitoring effectiveness and outcomes of intervention
• Experience of leadership -coordinating a team and supporting them clinically and professionally
