The successful candidate will be part of a well established and respected Clinical & Forensic Psychology Service at Arnold Lodge, which is well represented in multi-professional networks, both locally and nationally. We have strong links with academic institutions including Nottingham, Lincoln, Sheffield and Leicester Universities, and contribute to doctoral clinical and forensic psychology programmes and forensic and clinical training.

You will lead the Psychology Dept and also be part of the senior management team who are responsible for operational and strategic management/development of the hospital.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the development and delivery of specialist therapy and assessment functions for patients within the relevant clinical teams and across the Directorate.

Working within a highly specialised clinical area, to provide highly development specialist psychological and clinical and risk assessment of patients based upon appropriate use of interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological (and neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scales direct and indirect structured observations and semi structured interviews with patients, and others involved in the patients care.

Providing evidence based treatment pathways including a range of highly specialist interventions to address a complex set of mental health, personality disorder and offending needs for individual patients and groups.

You will lead the Psychology Dept and also be part of the senior management team who are responsible for operational and strategic management/development of the hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Honours degree in Psychology at 2:1 or above, accredited by the BPS.
  • MSc / Doctorate in Clinical or Forensic Psychology.
  • Must be registered with the HPC as a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist.
  • Leadership / managerial experience in forensic services.


Desirable

  • Qualification in highly specialist assessment / treatment modality

Essential

  • Evidence of post-qualification training, experience and developing expertise in a highly specialist area of forensic clinical psychology practice (e.g. psychotherapy, risk assessment, violent offender treatment programmes, forensic supervision etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge, experience and expertise in forensic mental health services and systems gained through specialist training and supervised practice.


Desirable

  • Awareness of strategic issues related to Forensic mental health care.


Experience

Essential

  • Highly specialist experience and expertise in forensic clinical psychology practice.
  • Significant experience of working effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of providing and evaluating evidence based highly specialist psychological interventions to address complex problems and needs of male mentally disordered offenders.
  • Experience of post-qualification knowledge and skills in forensic service evaluation and research, including evidence of publication.


Desirable

  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision to staff, MDT colleagues, and other psychologists.
  • Evidence of leadership roles e.g. in leading projects within the service or Trust.
  • Clinical and professional supervision of a psychological therapies team.
  • Co-ordination and supervision of candidates on route to professional qualification.
  • Experience of management duties, commensurate with grade, that might include responsibilities for patient care out of hours (i.e. on-call rota).


Knowledge

Essential

  • Can demonstrate highly specialist knowledge and skills across a range of aspects of clinical and forensic psychology (e.g. violent offending behaviour, deliberate self-harm).
  • Knowledge and demonstrated awareness of how issues of diversity (race, culture, identity, gender and sexuality) can be taken into account in service provision.
  • Experience of psychological representation on committees and consultation (internal management meetings, to other services / external agencies / non psychology staff).


Desirable

  • Evidence of leadership roles e.g. in leading projects / clinical work within the service or Trust.


Skills

Essential

  • Highly specialist skills in at least one model of therapeutic intervention relevant to mentally disordered offenders
  • Skills in providing advice and training to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management
  • Record of clinical effectiveness.
  • Highly specialist ability to plan and organise clinical service provision to meet service demands.
  • Proven ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Supervision of psychology and other MDT staff and professional trainees, including senior professionals and in area of specialist expertise
  • Research skills for audit, policy, service development, and research projects


Desirable

  • Experience of SPSS, databases/spreadsheets.
  • Experience of conference / presentation/teaching.
  • Publications in peer reviewed journal.
  • Presentations / dissemination of material at conferences / senior management meetings.
  • Highly developed research skills.
  • Proven skills (competent) in more than one model of therapy.
