CONSULTANT IN LEARNING DISABILITY PSYCHIATRY INPATIENT & COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Trust is commissioned to provide a Inpatient and Community Learning Disability Service to the West Yorkshire & Barnsley ICB, to support individuals with a Learning Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder who display acute behavioral disturbance and to safely manage the ensuing risks. We are looking to recruit a full-time consultant for this service. The post holder will be working in a split role, two and half days in the Horizon Assessment and Treatment Unit and two and half days in the Wakefield Adult LD Community Service.

Person Specification

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Learning Disability/General adult psychiatry OR within six months of gaining CCT.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.


Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
  • Experience working in other medical specialties including general medicine, geriatric medicine and A& E.
  • Experience in working in Learning Disability services.


Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.


Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.


Experience

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty.
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.


Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.


Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning

Essential

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Ability to work in and lead team.
  • Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working to deliver improvement.
  • Participated in CPD.
  • Partcipated in research or service evaluation.


Desirable

  • Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.
  • Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken.
  • Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvements, awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
  • Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients.
