Job summary

We are looking to increase the number of volunteers within University of North Midlands Hospitals Charity (UHNM) to offer support to the Charity team. These Volunteers' will make a huge difference to the work of the Charity at both hospital sites and external fundraising events.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Charity workforce and applications are invited from individuals aged 16yrs or above with a passion to volunteer.

Main duties of the job

Volunteers will be crucial in providing support to the Charity team in raising awareness of our Charities work at both hospitals, to our staff, patients and visitors.

About us

UHNM Charity supports the excellent work of UHNM NHS Trust by enhancing facilities and providing added value. It is a registered Charity that manages all monies raised or donated to the hospitals. UHNM Charity supports patients, their relatives and friends, staff and local businesses and organisations, to raise money for both hospitals. The Charity also works closely with the hospitals to ensure that all specialities are supported to spend every penny of the money raised on items that will directly improve patient care.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country. We serve around three million people and we're highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The Trust has around 1,450 inpatient beds across two sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Our 11,000 strong workforce provide emergency treatment, planned operations and medical care from Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford.

We are the specialist centre for major trauma for the North Midlands and North Wales. Job responsibilities

Main responsibilities and person specification.
  • Meet and greet, providing a warm welcometo guests and potential fundraisers.
  • Support Charity team with distribution of resources including collection cans etc.
  • Support at awareness and fundraising events which can be off site at times.
  • Encourage fundraising in general at both hospitals.
  • Help patients and visitors to access the information they require in relation to the Charity.
  • Keep information display areas and noticeboards in outpatient clinics, wards, departments and waiting areas fully stocked and tidy.
  • Be enthusiastic about Charity work with a positive attitude.
  • Willing to attend regularly and a team player.
  • Friendly and approachable personality, with the ability to communicate with people.
  • Capability to follow Trust policies and procedures.
  • Be reliable and trustworthy.


Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of and broad interest in patient safety.
  • Ability to communicate well in writing and read comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate a range of information and evidence.
  • Confidence to communicate well verbally with senior leaders about strategic issues, as an advocate for patient safety.
  • Ability to provide a patient, carer, or lay perspective and to put forward views on behalf of the wider community/groups of patients (not own opinion only).
  • Experience of championing health improvements; able to be a critical friend.
  • Interaction with multiple stakeholders at senior management level
  • Experience of working in partnership with healthcare organisations or programmes.
  • Sound judgement and an ability to be objective.
