This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellows to join the UK's busiest Renal Transplantation Centre. We carry out almost 300 living donor and deceased donor Kidney Transplants a year and are one of the few centres who carry out simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplants.

We are looking for the successful candidates to be able to join us as soon as possible. You will be part of a team of 16 Junior/Senior Clinical Fellows working with 12 Substantive Consultant Surgeons. The Transplant team works alongside the Nephrology team and therefore will work closely with Nephrology Junior Doctors and Consultants.

Main duties of the job

The Department is one of the largest in the UK, providing kidney care to South East London, Kent and the Channel Islands. We also receive a significant number of complex referrals from a wider geographical area.

We perform almost 300 transplants each year, have the largest living kidney donor programme in the country and are a supra-regional centre for both combined kidney/pancreas and pancreas alone transplantation. We have the country's largest antibody incompatible transplant programme. We performed the first robotic transplants in the UK and have world-class expertise in vascular access and transplant urology.

We are nationally recognised for quality of care, innovation in clinical practice and service delivery, and for our close functional and geographical integration with the research programmes of both the MRC Transplantation Centre and the Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre.

Job responsibilities

The post will be comparable to current ST3-ST8 posts with respect to responsibilities, audit and opportunities for training. This will be adapted toyour training level.

Your rota will involve:

1) On-calls (managing the wards, emergency theatre and deceased donor transplants) alongside the on-call Consultant.

2) Elective Operating lists - this could be living donor transplants, dialysis access surgery, transplant urology procedures or hernia repairs

3) Clinics - this could be surgical assessment, post transplant follow up or pre-op assessment clinics

You will be encouraged to carry out audit and quality improvement projects as well as to join and deliver teaching sessions.

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration

Desirable

• Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g. MRCS or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

• Significant (3+ years) experience of General Surgery/Urology

Desirable

• Experience of transplant, urology, vascular and/or laparoscopic surgery

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice
• A team based approach to care and service management
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues clinical and non-clinical patients and their carers/relatives

Research

Desirable

• An ability to initiative pursue and complete clinical or basic medical research

Teaching

Essential

• An ability to teach undergraduate students or other junior doctors

Desirable

• Certificate of medical education

Good Medical Practice

• Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical and Surgical Practice set out by the GMC
