Job summary

The Buckinghamshire Integrated respiratory service is expanding the pulmonary rehabilitation service and looking for a dynamic allied healthcare professional or nurse with a keen interest in respiratory medicine.

A valid driving license is essential for this role as the post holder will be required to travel to various venues/ community centres within Buckinghamshire where Pulmonary Rehabilitation sessions are delivered.

The post holder will provide specialist respiratory input supporting the running of Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes within the Community setting, using highly developed specialist practice underpinned by theoretical knowledge/respiratory qualifications.

Staff will be trained to be a specialist resource of information for health and social care staff, patients, families, carers, and external agencies who may require advice and support, and guidance in the management of respiratory conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and bronchiectasis

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a credible, visible role model for all junior nursing and allied healthcare professional staff.
  • To actively participate in MDT meetings raising and discussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients. Ensuring that patients' and relatives' views are always heard and considered.
  • To support the department team in resolving clinical and operational issues on a shift-by-shift basis whilst ensuring that best practice nursing care is delivered.
  • To work in collaboration with the department manager to establish a cleanliness culture across the department ensuring that the patient environment is well-maintained, clean, and safe.
  • To work with the department manager, the Infection Prevention Control Team, and the domestic support team to ensure adherence to cleaning contracts is maintained and monitored ensuring that any issues are escalated in a timely manner.
  • The post holder will need to maintain and supervise junior members of staff in ensuring that the nursing care delivered to all patients is established on an individual assessment, it is planned evidence based care, it is documented that it is implemented and it is evaluated asto effectiveness.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Good general education
  • Registered General Nurse/ HPC
  • Further education training e.g MSPP
  • Registered RN (adult)/ AHP
  • Degree in related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme
  • Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
  • Knowledge of a role of a Band 6
  • Knowledge of the NMC code of Professional Conduct or HPC registration
  • Experience delivering patient education
  • Advanced Diagnostic and Clinical Assessment Skills Module
  • Knowledge awareness of recent NHS policies / DH agenda
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the holistic needs of the client group

  • Able to manage own case load

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of Respiratory nursing
  • Significant experience at a Band 5/6 nursing level within a related field
  • Previous experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring
  • Evidence of participation in audit, research and development of staff
  • Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents, reports
  • Post registration experience working with respiratory patients
  • Demonstrates ability to develop new initiatives
  • Demonstrates ability to adapt to change
