Job summary
This is an exciting multi-faceted role, requiring a candidate with enthusiasm and commitment to telling the story of our unique trust in England, our colleagues and our patients. The trust will provide acute services from Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital, community services across Somerset, services from our 13 community hospitals, mental health and learning disability services across the county, and a quarter of the county's GP surgeries.
Main duties of the job
The Communications Officer (social media) is responsible for writing, editing and proofreading content for a range of different trust channels; planning and implementing communications projects; taking photographs and designing documents and planning content for the trust's social media channels. They will work closely with the colleagues working on external and internal communications and will report to the Communications Campaigns Lead who is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the trust's communications campaigns.

The postholder will:
- Use creativity underpinned by excellent written communication skills and their knowledge of communications practice and techniques to tell the story of our trust, its sites, colleagues and services.
- Work with a range of internal colleagues in different services and professions, and some external partners, to plan and implement communications projects, planning and providing content for a wide range of trust channels including internal, external and digital channels.
- Lead the management of the trusts social media channels by developing or adapting content for the trusts social media channels, providing an exciting mix and schedule of content that engages and grows the audience and reflects the depth, breadth and diversity of our trust.
- Providing support and guidance for the trusts service social media accounts.
- Contribute to an effective content plan for the trust by contributing to it and ensuring the content you produce is adapted for a range of communication channels.
- Provide communications advice and support to trust services, teams and colleagues.
- Write, take photographs and plan and provide digital and design content for a range of trust channels including internal, external and digital channels.
- Evaluate their own work, using metrics, feedback from colleagues and campaign outcomes, to identify opportunities for continual improvement for the communications service.
- Contribute to communications reports providing information about the services work, its outputs and achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Conduct effective professional development to ensure that the function remains dynamic and benefits from latest thinking within the sphere of communications.
- Take part in the trusts communications on call rota.
Play a significant role in the running of the communications service. This will include:
- Developing content for the trusts internal and external communications channels,
- Copywriting in different styles for different audiences and channels, Taking photographs and video of people, developments and events
- Managing the communications service inboxes on a rotational basis, acting on behalf of the service and responding to queries and providing advice, seeking advice, views and input from other communications team members in order to respond
- Populating, editing, proofreading and publishing the trusts communications outputs in line with deadlines.
- Any other tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the service.
Person Specification
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential
- Relevant degree level qualification or equivalent in communications
- Knowledge of communications procedures and practice including managing corporate social media accounts, underpinned by theory and experience in communications
- Knowledge of methods to evaluate communications activity and drive continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and video editing software.
- Experience of working with a range of internal and external colleagues to plan and implement communications projects across a range of channels.
- Experience of managing corporate social media accounts, developing and adapting content that drives audience engagement and grows the channel
- Experience of evaluating communications activity to drive continuous improvement.
- Experience of working effectively and collaboratively with communications colleagues in a busy environment with competing priorities
- Experience of providing communications advice and support to a wide range of colleagues across the organisation
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work simultaneously on a number of projects.
- Excellent copywriting, editing and proofreading skills
