Are you a newly qualified speech and language therapist looking to start your career? Or a recently qualified band 5 looking to gain experience working in an acute hospital setting? Then look no further this is the post for you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to work in the field of adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders. This is an excellent opportunity to gain communication and dysphagia experience across the specialities of stroke (hyper-acute, acute and inpatient rehabilitation) and general medicine (including acute respiratory care, critical care and ENT). If you are ready to grow and develop your skills, we are excited to welcome you to join our team at Fairfield General Hospital and the wider NCA team.

We offer a supportive environment with regular team meetings, close links with the MDT and in-house training opportunities including regular CPD events. We have established weekly videofluoroscopy clinics and a newly developing FEES service, there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to complete dysphagia competencies.

Main duties of the job

Every day is different!You will be:
  • Able to independently with adults with communication and swallowing difficulties
  • have up to date knowledge of communication assessment and treatment procedures.
  • Managing a caseload of patients assessing and making a clinical judgement of their condition and needs.
  • Create and implement individualised treatment programmes, ensuring these are evaluated and modified as required, following appropriate pathways of care and communicating via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
  • Supported by other Speech and Language Therapy colleagues, therapy assistants and colleagues within our stroke service.
  • Be willing to help further develop the service we provide.
  • Keen to provide specialist advice and enjoy delivering training across the wider workforce as well as educating and enriching student's experiences too!

Person Specification

Registration & Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • HCPC registered


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
  • Able to work unsupervised in designated areas


Desirable

  • Evidence of work with the public in another sphere.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
