We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, energetic and clinically confident community psychiatric nurse to join our Lewisham team due to further expansion of the Perinatal Community services.

You will have experience of general adult inpatient, Mother and Baby inpatient unit, community mental health services or CAMHS. You will also have experience of working with women who suffer from moderate to severe mental illness in the perinatal period.

You will be familiar with Perinatal community standards, governance and performance structures and confident in partnership work with other agencies such as Children and Family Social Services, Midwifery and Obstetric teams, CMHTs, Health Visitors and the Voluntary sector.

You will display excellent clinical knowledge and skilled practice in women with mental health disorders in the perinatal period. You will provide consistently skilled judgments in clinical work. You need to have experience of working in a richly diverse inner city Borough and have the understanding of theopportunities challengesthat this brings.

Working closely with your colleagues in PMHT's, you will receive support and be part of the on-going Perinatal workforce training within SLaM and London wide. In addition, you will be partof the Pan London Community Perinatal Nurses network. This is a great opportunity to supervise juniorstaff, student nurses as well asimplementing new ways of working using best practice and NICE guidelines.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an autonomous Perinatal Community Nurse with a defined caseload. Ensuring the on-going assessment of adults within the service and providing a range of needs-led interventions and care.
  • To work in consultation with other professionals making known concerns regarding safeguarding children and safeguarding adults to the appropriate and responsible services.
  • To work in collaboration with both colleagues from generic psychiatric services and staff from other perinatal services.

    Job responsibilities

  • To provide clinical expertise on perinatal mental health issues within the Borough of Lewisham. To have day to day responsibility for a defined caseload, and for the setting, monitoring and maintaining of high standards of care including the CPA guidelines.
  • Determine the type of care/treatment level as appropriate for the individuals referred including referring onto other agencies/professionals. To ensure that assessments and pathways of care are kept up to date and that discharge planning and review meetings are carried out to a high standard.
  • To provide independent written assessments to primary health care professionals focusing on a formulation for treatment options. To provide clinical expertise and advice in identifying women at high risk of mental illness in the perinatal period, and pathways into appropriate care.
  • To form effective relationships with inpatient services to facilitate early effective discharge. Maintain and develop Primary Care liaison with an attached GP Practice as required.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • RMN with current NMC registration and revalidation.
    • Evidence of on-going professional development


    Experience

    Essential

    • Experience of working with Patients with severe and enduring mental health problems
    • Understanding of Maternal Mental illness
    • Different Interventions for patients with Perinatal Mental Health illness
    • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Experience of working with patients when acutely ill
