Job summary
The role provides an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Clinical Coding Management Team and drive the development and delivery of Clinical Coding of the future.
The post holder will be a highly organised and experienced manager with a strong interest in quality management, development and excellence in service delivery. The post holder will have strong communication skills and an ability to develop strong and sustainable relationships with clinical and corporate colleagues both within the Trust and across the wider healthcare system.
Working with the Clinical Coding management team the post holder will lead and manage a highly skilled team of 50+ clinical coders including lead coders, experienced higher level coders and trainees to ensure the high quality delivery of clinical coding at NUH in line with national standards.

The post holder will deputise for the Head of Coding to provide a comprehensive Clinical Coding service that is both timely and accurate. The post holder will also play an important role in the determination of the Trusts policies on Clinical Coding of clinical information and related issues.
The post holder will undertake management of projects including the development of our space, resources and facilities.
The post holder will work across both sites as and when required.

Operational Delivery
To develop, implement and maintain a clinical coding strategy, policy and systems to ensure a clinical coding service that meets best practice guidance, providing expert knowledge in the use of clinical coding classifications and associated systems
Support the annual review of the Trusts Coding Policy and Procedure document
Lead the changing needs of a Clinical Coding service, making contribution to the achievement of the Clinical Coding departments objectives
Represent the team and contribute to Trust wide meetings as required
Represent the team and contribute at national and local events outside NUH as required
Oversee management of the clinical coding services including recruitment and selection, and attendance and performance management
Oversee the management of the day-to-day delivery of clinical coding to agreed service levels, including all aspects of management of the clinical coders including use of contract coders as and when required
Act as an authorised signatory for attendance sheets, expenses and office supplies
Lead and actively participate in the staff appraisal process.
Oversee all mandatory training requirements are met
Oversee the team leader to ensure the organisation of the coding team so that individual coders are assigned to specific Clinical Divisions whilst ensuring both multi-skilling of coders and cover for leave
Oversee the team leader to provide effective workload distribution to ensure delivery of a quality service
Lead with the Training and Audit manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of coding standards to meet the requirements of the Trust whilst maintaining coding to national guidelines
Support the Training and Audit Manager and lead coders in consultation with clinicians for clarification on new interventional procedures and clinical practice to ensure correct understanding for code assignment
Take responsibility for the lead coders and the process to promote and improve awareness of Clinical Coding and its purpose, presenting and communicating to a wide range of Trust colleagues, including, clinical, management and admin teams
Monitor coding progress ensuring that coding is maximised and deadlines met whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and data quality
Lead on appropriate initiatives in coding to enable the Trust to continue to improve the quality and availability of coded information
Oversee the planning, development, promotion and delivery of Clinical Coding events
Project manage complex projects as required to ensure best practice and service development
Promote a culture of innovation, learning, development and supportive team working
