An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Service Manager, Gastroenterology, Endoscopy & Hepatology within the Specialised Medicine Directorate, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

We are seeking a passionate and driven individual to support our services and to help deliver our transformation plans, whilst supporting the high quality and effectiveness of our service

The post holder will lead the services, whilst working alongside the General Manager, Medical Leads and Nursing Leads to deliver local strategic service objectives and standards. The Service Manager will be responsible for working to ensure the delivery of key quality, performance and service improvements within the Clinical Service.

This will include line management of staff across a number of staff groups and two hospital sites. This role will give the post holder an opportunity to develop both managerial and transformational skills. The post holder will be supported by the Directorate Managerial Team and also the Senior Nursing Team.

Main duties of the job

Qualifications

Essential

• Master Degree level or equivalent experience
• Recognised management qualification or willingness to work towards.
• Evidence of Management development through continuous Professional Development, and/ or formal management courses.

Desirable

• IHM membership or equivalent managerial professional body
• Prince Project Management

Experience

Essential

• Demonstrable NHS manager experience including line management responsibility for multi-disciplinary teams
• Evidence of strategic management planning and achievements in complex management situations
• Responsibility for performance management (including waiting lists) and meeting challenging targets
• Responsibility for managing an expenditure budget (under 2.5m pound)
• Evidence of managing projects
• Development of Policies and procedures

Desirable

• Evidence of experience in achieving CPA or similar accreditation
• Commissioning services and or negotiation of contracts

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

• Current knowledge of NHS, Health Board and Welsh Strategic Direction
• Competent in the use of IM and IT tools and techniques to support reporting and analytical skills
• Analytical / audit skills and experience of its use in option appraisal/ service planning
• Problem solving skills, utilising complex information to identify solutions
• Experience in managing change, project management & capacity planning
