Job summary

The ER advisor will offer specialist and generalist support and advice on the full range of ER issues including NHS terms and conditions of employment; management of change and TUPE; retirement, maternity/parental leave; disciplinary; grievances; job evaluation etc. through the various stages of the employee's life cycle informal/formal stages.

Main duties of the job

The Employee Relations Advisor will support the HR Team in providing a customer-focused, high quality, responsive and comprehensive Human Resources advisory service for the Division, advising on terms and conditions, HR policies and all matters relating to the employment of staff. The post-holder will largely work independently with guidance/ support available from the HR Business Partner.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The ER Advisor will be part of the Divisional HR team and will be responsible for providing a high quality, comprehensive, customer focused and service to managers and staff within the Trust.

The postholder will:
  • work with the HRBPs, Divisional Head of HR and the broader HR team in supporting the implementation of the Trusts Workforce Strategy working with the wider HR team to address development issues for the workforce.
  • act as the employee relations lead to co-ordinate, manage and ensure delivery on specific agreed areas of work.
  • The ER advisor will provide a full range of comprehensive and professional HR services within a nominated directorate and/or service across the division. They will build and maintain credible and productive relationships by working in partnership with divisional, service and department leads, employees, HR business partners, staff side representatives and HR colleagues.

The ER advisor will develop and/or support the development of streamlined, standardized user-friendly HR policies, processes, standard templates and toolkits in line with business needs.

Compile reports for the HRBP and Service Management Teams on HR activity, highlight and address any areas of concern in addition compile service specific reports and attend agreed service management meetings.

Coach and up skill managers to proactively manage staff within Trust policy.

Provide data to the HRBP and Service/Clinical Managers on the management of formal processes to ensure they are being undertaken within the agreed timescales as set out in Trust policy.

Be responsible for supporting managers on the formulation of solutions to any HR issues within scope.

Support the training and development of managers in the development of their people management skills, knowledge of Trust policies & procedures and best HR practice.

Support the organisational change agenda working collaboratively with key decision makers, senior managers and Directors to inform and influence organisational development.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • CIPD qualified
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development


Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification on Human Resources


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial HR experience, including relevant NHS or other healthcare environment
  • Experience of managing employee relations issues in a unionised environment
  • Experience of dealing with senior managers and staff
  • Experience of working in a customer focused service
  • Experience of advising and supporting change management
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office Software
  • Experience of participating in and advising on performance management investigations and hearings
  • Experience of undertaking Job Evaluation in the NHS
  • Experience of providing advice on employee relations and recruitment issues


Desirable

  • Experience of maintaining an HR/Payroll system
  • NHS Experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of NHS terms & conditions, particularly Agenda for Change
