Torbay hospital Anaesthetic Department seeks applications for a trust Grade Doctor at CT3/ST3 level or equivalent

The successful candidate will participate in the provision of elective and emergency anaesthetic services under appropriate direct and indirect clinical supervision.

The emergency work includes provision of anaesthesia for emergency theatres, provision of labour ward analgesia and anaesthesia for obstetric cases, support for the Critical Care Unit out and attendance at ED for advanced resuscitation and Trauma calls.

The Trust Grade Doctor will also be expected to undertake medical transfers to specialist hospitals, most commonly accompanying acute neurosurgical cases to Derriford (Plymouth).

The post will require participation ST 1:8 full shift rota

Main duties of the job

Clinical supervision is provided for both safety and educational support. Attendance at in-house educational and audit meetings is encouraged.

An Educational /Clinical Supervisor will be allocated.

There are eight Anaesthetic Specialist Registrars on rotation as part of the South West School of Anaesthesia and six core trainees in anaesthesia.

In ICU, there are 2 FY1 trainees and 1 FY2, six core trainee level, and 1 stage 1 ICM trainee.

    • To be able to analyse and judge anaesthetic situations, follow protocols and escalate to senior staff where necessary

    • To follow Trust protocols and anaesthetic guidelines to deliver a safe and efficient anaesthetic service

    • To adhere to policies and guidelines of the Trust
    • To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes

    • To use the Trusts systems to complete relevant medical records both paper and electronic as per policies and procedures

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Full GMC Registratin
  • Medical Degree
  • Primary FRCA or equivalent
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE Grdae C or equivalent) IELTS or graduate of a UK medical school


Desirable

  • Final FRCA


Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Two or more years of anaesthetic experience
  • Competent in Obstetric Analgesia
  • ALS


Desirable

  • APLS, ATLS

  • Interest in Teaching


Physical Skills/Physical effort

Essential

  • Physically capable of fulfilling the role as presented
  • Able to move easily around the hospital to see patients in a variety of settings
