The Trust Doctor will provide clinical expertise, expert advice and leadership to patients, carers and Trust staff with a particular focus on people living with frailty and the development of services for acutely unwell patients and in the outpatient settings.

We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Doctor at registrar level in geriatric medicine to join a team including medical and nurse consultants covering North Cumbria.

This post is based in the Elderly Care Department at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (CIC)with opportunities to work across site at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven (WCH).The successful candidate will be encouraged to work as part of an established multi-disciplinary team inputting and helping to develop new models of care within an acute frailty pathway. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which clinicians are at the forefront of management and service development.

It is expected that the appointee will contribute equally to the out-of-hours-work and on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work full or part time in CotE . In the course of his/her work the job holder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.

Appraisal and Job Planning is carried out at regular intervals, and forwarded to the specialty lead.
  • The post holder will fulfil a clear strategic clinical leadership role to promote and improve the care and services to older people across the Trust.
  • The post holder will be expected to be an expert practitioner in all aspects of geriatric medicine (particularly frailty) and advanced clinical practice within elderly care and have significant clinical skills.
  • May undertake Frailty/ Care of Elderly clinics.
  • Carry out inpatient ward and board rounds
  • Ensure that Estimated Discharge Dates are set on admission for inpatients
  • Keep up to date with required administration work
  • Support delivery of national targets
  • Keep themselves up to date with best medical practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with licence to practice at time of application
  • Full MRCP (UK)
  • Completed Core Medical Training with satisfactory outcome at final ARCP


Desirable

  • Post-graduate teaching experience/qualification
  • Presentation/publications Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate appropriate experience in the management of General Medicine. Interest in research opportunities. Previous Involvement in Audit projects. Evidence Continuing Professional Development. Working knowledge of common conditions met in the management of General Medicine in a district general hospital. Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff.


Desirable

  • Evidence of Research & Publications. Evidence and be able to demonstrate improvement in care through Audit. Evidence of CPD. An understanding of evidence based medicine.
