Job summary

A great opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire Healthcare for a Group Wellbeing Psychological Therapist. This role will work within our, well respected and developing Staff Wellbeing team.

You would be joining a dedicated team of caring wellbeing and mental health professionals who take pride in supporting our NHS colleagues across the trust with their wellbeing needs. The team take a central role in creating a culture of wellbeing and psychological safety, via a high engagement outreach strategy, making as many meaningful connections with colleagues as possible, encouraging them to understand the importance of self-care and develop effective strategies to improve and sustain their emotional health and wellbeing.

The purpose of this role is to identify presenting issues and professionally triage psychological needs, therefore providing the best approach to engage with teams/groups of BHT colleagues to facilitate improvements in their psychological wellbeing and interpersonal/teamworking ability to develop relevant stress coping strategies. The ability to identify and provide further professional mental health support, or where appropriate signpost to internal/ external sources of support.

This is a full time 12 month FTC post in the first instance. We welcome flexible working option discussions. including the opportunity to job share.

A DBS check will be carried out and provided by the Trust as part of the pre-employment process.

Main duties of the job

  • Plan and execute group therapy work, identifying where individual colleagues may need separate support.
  • Following the group therapy work, and observing boundaries of confidentiality and contracting with the group/s, provide feedback and recommended next steps, where appropriate.
  • Assess clients for suitability for Counselling / Group Therapy.
  • Formulate, implement, and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.
  • Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
  • Deliver mental health/psycho-educative training packages. around various wellbeing topics
  • Partner with managers/team leaders to discuss the presenting issues that are negatively impacting the wellbeing of a team and undertake diagnostics work as necessary to define the best group therapy and/or 1:1 approach to facilitate improvements in their psychological wellbeing of individuals/the team

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Post Graduate qualification in Evidence based Psychological therapies, counselling or evidence based psychoanalytic /psychodynamic and/or CBT therapies
  • Registration with relevant professional body, e.g., BACP, HCPC or NMC, or the ability to apply for registration, given qualifications and experience gained to date


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of direct clinical contact with patients who have experienced mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, trauma/PTS - in 1:1 and group settings.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of psychological issues, how they present in the workplace and team setting, how they impact mental health and how they are best addressed in a workplace setting.
  • Experience of designing and facilitating reflective and psycho-educative group work
  • Experience of designing and delivering psycho-educative presentations, workshops


Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of medication routinely used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
  • Demonstrates an awareness of NICE Guidelines in relation to mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety and depression
  • Have knowledge of HSE Stress management standards and appropriate legislation in regard to stress at work. Be committed to the concept of recovery and resilience
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage own diary and project manage own workload
  • Resilient and adaptive to change in a fast-paced work environment


Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential

  • Ability to partner with managers at all levels to understand the issues they face, prioritise these issues and develop a plan to help overcome presenting challenges

  • Able to travel across all Trust sites and venues

  • Ability to diagnose and triage presenting symptoms within a individual/team/group to understand the most appropriate therapeutic approach

  • Evidence of understanding the leadership challenges within the NHS
